We get really excited this time of the month, taking a pause to reflect on the best products we've tried in the past 30 days. (Which is both incredibly fun and incredibly difficult.) But we have a fun surprise up our sleeves: Whereas before we dedicated one lone "best-of" post to every kind of beauty product—from hair products to makeup to skincare—we've decided to split up our favorite categories each month to provide specific insight into what we've been loving, trying, and recommending to everyone we know. And right here, right now, we're talking makeup. Behold the 15 best beauty products Team Byrdie tried and quickly fell head over heels for during the month of June. Keep scrolling for the lipsticks, luminizers, and concealers we can't stop swiping.
"I have a shameless love for anything that promises to make my lips look plumper, but after trying countless products with less-than-stellar results, I'd given up on the category almost entirely. Until, that is, I was sent this magical gloss from ModelCo. (I'm also not a gloss person—go figure.) The key is the brand's trademark Micro Filling Spheres, marine collagen, and hyaluronic acid, which together fill out your lip line with a slight tingle but no burn or sting."
"This might be one of the most exciting discoveries—of my entire life. In general, I avoid putting most oils on my face, as many are comedogenic and clog up my pores. Chia seed oil, on the other hand, seems to be fine. And this chia seed oil, in particular, is infused with a hint of shimmer that just might be the prettiest thing I've ever highlighted my face with. Seriously, I'm prepared to praise the formula until I'm blue in the face. A hue, I'm sure, this elixir would still manage to accent beautifully."
"Even though I'm not a huge fan of eye shadow on myself, slowly but surely I'm becoming a convert. I love the array of colors and finishes in Urban Decay's newest launch and appreciate the overall earthiness and wearability. I'm predicting it will be my go-to palette all summer long."
"Finding a waterproof mascara that A) doesn't clump and B) doesn't require 15 minutes of painstaking removal is no easy task. I love the 'wet' look of Eyeko's new Beach Mascara—it defines and lengthens my lashes in a very sleek, non-spidery way, like I've just emerged from the water. But it doesn't flake or clump, which is truly remarkable. I've gotten so many compliments since I started wearing it, so it's a keeper for me."
"Welp, I finally found it. My all-time favorite brow gel. I'm not exaggerating. Who knew a sleeper brand like ModelCo would make a formula that fills in your brows so perfectly, without being goopy or watery, while also brushing them up and keeping them in place better than any other brow gel I've tried? I wore this the other day and someone asked me, 'What does it feel like to live life with brows that good?' If that's not proof of a great product, I truly don't know what is."
"Secret Camouflage is the Laura Mercier concealer everyone talks about, but I recently tried the Flawless Fusion stuff for the first time, and I really dig it. It's natural and light, easy to blend but offers a really nice coverage. Suddenly, it's the one I find myself reaching for every day."
"I'd like to give a major shout-out to Dior for joining the inclusivity party and releasing 40 shades of foundation. However, it's not about a number that prioritizes quantity over quality. This lightweight foundation was formulated with undertones in mind to create true shades that work for all skin tones. It's medium coverage with a soft, matte finish that looks like second skin. It's meant to fuse with your skin, and I love that I forget it's there when I'm wearing it."
"To be honest, anything that Pat McGrath says is amazing is amazing in my book. So when I went to her launch event unveiling this new highlighter-and-balm duo this month, my eyes lit up the moment I saw how gorgeous it looked on my skin. Pat told us it's what she's been using backstage during fashion week for years to create an undeniable glow. And do I want to look like I stepped off the runway every damn day? Um, yes, please. I've been relying on the bronze shade to give the high points of my face a champagne-like glow. But my favorite side of this stick is the balm. It delivers the dew of my dreams, without feeling cakey or too slippery. It's probably going to be my go-to product of the summer. It's such a vibe."
"My summer beauty vibe is simple, beachy, and as pared-down as possible, especially given my gross, sweaty commutes. I love the idea of not wearing a heavy foundation in the summer, so when I find a good lightweight replacement, I need to share it with anyone who will listen. Peter Thomas Roth's latest launch, Max Mineral Naked, is a tinted mineral sunscreen with SPF 45 that beautifully blurs our pores and evens my skin tone. I put on about two to three layers for more coverage, but it still remains light on my skin. It's also got a universal tint (truly, we tested it on Maya's chocolate skin tone and it blended quite well)."
"I'm confused as to why Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks are always a smash hit. I've never once seen someone wear a Tilbury-bred lip product and not look like an even better version of themselves. It's sorcery, really. That being said, the stakes were pretty high when I tried her newest shade, Sunset Lover. It's a pinky coral with neutral undertones that expertly complements every skin tone beautifully. The first time I tried it, I only applied it once, and the color was still on after I got home later that evening. It's my new summer shade."
"I consider myself a black-eyeliner connoisseur, and Fenty Beauty's newest liner is a new favorite. It's inky as night, just the right amount of liquidy and easy to use. I like that it dries matte, but the color intensity doesn't fade. Rihanna, you killed it again."
"This bronzing, glow-giving primer makes me look like I just spent a day lying out in the Malibu sun. I apply it under foundation for a sun-kissed look or wear it alone on a good skin day. Unlike other bronzing primers, it never veers orange or leaves my oily skin looking greasy by the afternoon. The ingredients are clean, the packaging is sleek, and I have a feeling I'll be using it year-round to amp up my glow."
"I recently tested Linda Wells's new collection of makeup, Flesh, and was really impressed. I was particularly drawn to the Glisten Drops, a serum-like highlighter blend you're meant to mix in and blend anywhere you see fit. I dabbed on the highlighter drops in Aura, an ethereal, Kewpie-doll light pink that still gave off a really natural glow. It practically disappeared when I blended it, leaving behind a halo glow of light-reflecting pigment. I followed up with my lids, cheekbones, and Cupid's bow and officially pronounced this product my new go-to highlighter."
"If you're an avid Byrdie reader, you already know my love for La Prairie, specifically its collection of skincare products brimming with anti-aging caviar essence. It just so happens the brand just launched a foundation chock-full of that very same ingredient. I have become obsessed with the brand's first compact foundation infused with caviar water for two reasons: I love feeling fancy and there's nothing fancier than caviar and because it works both as makeup and active skincare. The finish is sheer, buildable, and the perfect amount of glowy. And I know when I sponge it on I'm also keeping my face in tip-top, caviar-infused shape."
