Of all the Makeup Products We Tried This Month, These Were by Far the Best

We've been telling everyone about them

Updated 04/17/19

We get really excited this time of the month, pausing to reflect on the best products we've tried in the past 30 days (which is both incredibly fun and incredibly difficult). But we have a fun surprise up our sleeves: Whereas before we dedicated one lone "best-of" post to every kind of beauty product—from hair products to makeup to skincare—we've decided to split up our favorite categories each month to provide specific insight into what we've been loving, trying, and recommending to everyone we know. And right here, right now, we're talking makeup. Behold the 11 best makeup products Team Byrdie tried and quickly fell head over heels for during the month of July. Keep scrolling for the lipsticks, luminizers, and foundations we couldn't stop swiping.

Beautyblender Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation $40
Shop

"When you're the maker of one of the most iconic foundation applicators out there, launching your own foundation comes with a lot of pressure. Luckily, Beautyblender’s new foundation lives up to its reputation. It's full coverage but blends easily for a velvety finish that doesn't look too matte (as someone who prefers a dewier look, I found it to be the perfect amount of matte). It comes in a wide range of shades, and I was easily able to find mine (3.30 and 3.35 both work for me). For anyone considering it, it's worth the hype."

Honest Beauty Crème Cheek Blush in Peony Pink $13
Shop

"Honest Beauty recently rebranded with a much more whimsical vibe, and because of it, I've recently rediscovered its cream blush. First of all, the small square compact is the perfect size, and I love that it doesn't take up too much room in my bag. Peony is a warm pink shade that gives a natural-looking flush, like maybe you just had the best yoga class ever. The best part? The compact has a mirror on the inside so you can touch up on the go."

Ogee Sculpted Lip Oil Tinted in Zinnia $26
Shop

"Ogee's original Sculpted Lip Oil melts on contact and seeps deeply into the skin for maximum hydration, which is honestly what I expected of the brand's new tinted lip oils. But instead, they feel more like a matte lip crayon, which I actually appreciate more from a tinted lip product. If it were too oily, it'd wear off right away, so I really appreciate the staying power of the gorgeous flower-inspired shades. My current favorite is Zinnia, a deep raspberry hue."

Fenty Beauty Diamond Ball-Out Highlighter (Available August 1) $34
Shop

"Not going to lie, I was straight-up scared the minute I saw this bright platinum highlighter. I usually stick to golden, warm tones on my my cheekbones. I thought, Silver on my brown skin? Nah. But when has RiRi ever steered me wrong? So I used her cheek-hugging highlighter brush and swooped this sparkly fairy dust on my cheekbones and temples. I was instantly in love with how the silver stood out on my dark skin. So much that I even dipped my ring finger in the pot and slid it all over my eyelids. It didn't look extra, but rather sophisticated. So yes, silver highlighter is my thing now, and as of August 1 (when it comes out), it can be yours too."

Beautyblender Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation $40
Shop

"Recently, along with about 20 color-coordinating Beautyblender sponges (the whole office was in a tizzy) arrived Beautyblender's first-ever foundation, Bounce. It's a full-coverage formula (which isn't my usual go-to, but just wait) that feels light, whipped, and pretty much like bare skin once it's applied. It blends like a dream—it's so silky and melts into your skin once you hit it with a damp Beautyblender and offers a velveteen-matte finish (healthy, dewy, but not shiny). I applied it without primer and didn't dust powder over top, and it stayed perfectly on my face all day and into the night."

Urban Decay Lo-Fi Lip Mousse in Fade $22
Shop

"I am obsessed with this. And I barely ever say that, especially when it comes to a matte lip product. But this light-as-air mousse applies kind of like a powder, hugging every contour of your lip in the process. It's oddly plumping, stays put, and wears so beautifully. I'm sold."

RMS Beauty Peach Luminizer $38
Shop

"I'm a huge fan of RMS's cult Living Luminizer. So much so I barely go a day without applying it somewhere on my face or body. So it's only natural I'd gravitate toward its newest iteration, the Peach Luminizer, which offers all the same wonderful benefits as its predecessor, only a bit pinker and more summery."

Phyto-Blush Twist - Petal
Sisley Phyto-Blush Twist in Petal $68
Shop

"Although I always like the idea of cream blushes, and many do indeed look pretty immediately post-application, they don't always wear well. (That's my nice way of saying they disappear within 10 minutes.) And as someone who's usually wearing my makeup for more than 12 hours (eek, I know), that's just not going to cut it. But this handy twist-up version from Sisley Paris is different. One, it actually lasts, and two, it blends seemlessly—regardless of whether you're swirling it onto bare skin or layering it atop foundation or powder. Plus, the shade Petal is just so darn pretty for summer. I've also been loving the brand's Phyto-Touche Sun Glow Powder in Peche Doree ($118) and have been layering the palette's pink shade of powder on top of the blush as an unnecessary, albeit really pretty, form of extra assurance this summer."

Tarte Glide & Go Buttery Lipstick in Tangerine Target $18
Shop

"Oh, how I love these new lipsticks from Tarte. No seriously, I am infatuated. I love lipstick. In fact, it's slowly but surely become one of my favorite daily makeup items. The one and only hitch: 97% of formulas quite literally suck the moisture out of my already dangerously dry pout. Thus, I'm often left with lined, dry, and cracked looking lips with just an afterthought of stain leftover—yikes. But these new and butter numbers from Tarte are cut from a different cloth entirely. They shroud lips in hydration (yet don't make them feel greasy) and drop the perfect hit of color that's juicier in pigment than a balm but with the same creamy texture. I was lucky enough to receive all six colors in the collection (they're all fab) but have received the most compliments while wearing this summer citrus hue of tangerine."

Bar Of Gold Palette Highlighter Palette
Charlotte Tilbury Bar of Gold Palette Highlighter Palette $58
Shop

"I've been stubbornly devoted to the same powder highlighter for years. Sure, I've tried plenty of others I I like just fine, but never have I ever found another I've actually loved. Until now. And truth be told, I'm not surprised it was Charlotte (the glowing goddess of the makeup industry) who ultimately proved to be my old favorite's undoing. A hot-and-heavy favorite (and super-fast sellout), the gold shade was previously served to makeup lovers as a single, but earlier this month, the brand re-released it in a pack of three alongside two other covetable tints. To be honest, I use all three on my face at once (they're so complementary to each other), and focus each hue on different planes of my face for a super-dimensional finish. Magically, it never looks overdone."

Milk Makeup Kush Fiber Brow Gel $18
Shop

"My brow-gel dependency is well documented, but this is the one I've been playing with most lately. I love the tiny easy-to-use brush, the shade range, and the stay-put formula, which really does work to make my brows look thicker and fuller."

Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Lipstick in Pinky Winky $38
Shop

"I've been living for the bright, intensely pigmented new shades in Linda Rodin's lipstick line. The finish is pretty matte, so I recommend layering it over a thin layer of balm for the best wear. And as always, Rodin's packaging is too chic for words."
