I very distinctly remember the first time I realized the value of hotel toiletries. At 17 years old, I had certainly swiped my fair share of miniature shampoos and body washes throughout the years—but they were the cheapo kind: unassuming bars of soap and gloopy conditioner that gets stuck in the bottle.
And then, during a blissful summer trip through France before my senior year of high school, I made a stop at a cute boutique hotel in Nice. I can't remember the name of it or anything remotely special about the accommodations, except for the fact that there were beautiful, ornate Fragonard soaps waiting for me in the bathroom. And that tiny little detail made my stay all the more special.
Of course, I know now that there's a whole industry devoted to creating this kind of experience. Many beauty brands have had contracts with hotels for years to exclusively stock amenities, which is why you may notice that you'll always find Aveda toiletries at Renaissance hotels, for example, or Bliss bath products at W's properties. But plenty of niche brands have gotten a piece, often signing with equally nice accommodations to make their clientele's stay all the more memorable—and all the more luxurious.
