Best Holiday Beauty Produts: Ouai Wave Spray by Lucy Williams

When suitcase space is at a premium (and even when it is not), the skill of smart packing is certainly one to covet. Yes, you can fill your shoes with shampoo bottles, wrap as many lotions around your towels as possible and tesselate your eye shadow palettes all you like. But as seasoned holidayers and beauty experts, we have one key learning to share on the matter: Hardworking, multi-purpose items are definitely where it's at when it comes to holiday beauty products.

We're talking hair products that omit the need for extra styling tools and face oils that do the work of multiple serums. It's a tactic that works especially well if you're looking to maximize room for all those basket bags and sundresses you're hoping to bring back from the local markets.

Considering we've packed our fair share of toiletries over the years, we thought we'd share the holiday beauty products that get wheeled out every time we travel.

Amy Lawrenson, Editorial Director

The Vibe: I pack anything that will multiply my holiday aesthetic tenfold, so that means glow-inducing makeup products and anything that will give me beach-textured hair without the knots.

Sachujuan Ocean Mist
Sachujuan Ocean Mist $18

Seawater is the only real thing that can give me those illusive dishevelled waves, but it can easily go the other way and leave hair looking matted and a bit of a mess. So I find this beach spray to be a good middle ground, giving the texture I want without the tears when it comes to hair-brushing time.

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel
Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel $40

I'm pretty fair, so I love a bronzer that will amp up any effect of the sun without looking like I've just pasted a load of brown stuff on my face. Chanel's bronzer is the most authentic I've tried. It has this mousse-y texture that blends down to a really sheer filter of colour that still lets the natural nuances of my skin peek through. It is huge, though, so def not one to pack if you've only got carry-on luggage.

Stila Convertible Color in Gerbera
Stila Convertible Color in Gerbera $16

If I'm going sans foundation (and on holiday I often do), I like to place a little pop of healthy colour onto the apples of the cheeks. And Stila's peachy cream blush works just as well over the eyelids and across the lips. I call it space-saving.

Eyeko Yoga Exhale and Extend Waterproof Mascara
Eyeko Yoga Exhale and Extend Waterproof Mascara $19

Waterproof mascara is really the only option on holiday unless you wanna end up with grey streaks down your cheeks after the first dip in the pool. This one contains loads of conditioning ingredients like matcha green tea and vitamin E to care for lashes while you wear it.

Shannon Peter, Deputy Editor

The Vibe: I tend to wear no makeup when I'm away, but I go OTT on skincare. My suitcase is always packed with decadent body and face oils that I apply by the handful. And I love dedicating a good perfume to each holiday I go on—when I return, the scent always reminds me of the experience.

IGK Hair Thirsty Girl Coconut Milk Leave-In Conditioner
IGK Hair Thirsty Girl Coconut Milk Leave-In Conditioner $24

IGK's leave-in conditioner is a fairly new discovery for me, but I can't wait to spray it through my hair on beach days to stop my curls from drying out in the sun.

Neighbourhood Botanicals The Daily Glow
Neighbourhood Botanicals The Daily Glow $28

I'm all about oils year-round, but especially on holiday when the sun can zap skin of all moisture. This one by hip new brand Neighbourhood Botanicals contains ample amounts of antioxidants, vitamins and phytosterols to keep skin glowing. It's dreamy in sundowner selfies.

Votary Body Treatment Oil
Votary Body Treatment Oil $55

I also extend the oil slathering down to the body, and Votary's salicylic acid–infused formula is my all-time favourite. As suncream can start to suffocate skin, the aforementioned acid in this formula nibbles away at any congestion in the pores over the backs of the arms or across the bottom of the bum, leaving skin nourished and so, so smooth.

Vilhelm Parfumerie Dirty Velvet Eau de Parfum Travel
Vilhelm Parfumerie Dirty Velvet Eau de Parfum Travel $60

I go very minimal on makeup while on holiday, but I tend to pack a couple of perfumes, as I swear certain notes smell way better in the humidity than they do in this bleak weather back home. This scent smells like spicy Ribena, and I love it.

Alyss Bowen, Associate Social Media Editor

The Vibe: I go as minimal as possible on makeup to save time for more important things like eating, drinking and reading. And I find holidays are a great opportunity to just let my skin breathe.

Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat
Urban Decay Naked Petite Heat $26

I try to only pack one palette (which, TBH, I don't really even use, as I tend to go without makeup on holiday, but you know, just in case). This cute new miniature version of Urban Decay's Naked Heat palette is so diddy it fits into the smallest of suitcase gaps. Plus you can wear all the shades alone or build them up for a smokey eye.

Glossier Birthday Balm Dotcom
Glossier Birthday Balm Dotcom $10

Because I can't go anywhere without it, and if I do, I feel like a part of me is missing. I use it as a highlighter, eye gloss and lip balm, so I can save space in my makeup bag.

Jo Malone English Oak and Redcurrant 30ML
Jo Malone English Oak and Redcurrant 30ML $45

The 30-millilitre Jo Malone perfumes are the perfect size for your carry-on, and this is my everyday go-to scent. It's the perfect mix of woody, earthy tones with a fresh hint of redcurrant. The dream.

Garnier Ambre Solaire UV Water SPF 30
Garnier Ambre Solaire UV Water SPF 30 $9

I'm pale and have to be really careful when out in the sun, but I also hate the feeling of thick suncream on my skin. This Garnier one sprays on like water and disappears into your skin in seconds, leaving it silky smooth.

Better get packing now that you've figured out your beauty-packing strategy.
