6 Hair Moments We Stan from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's "WAP" Video

Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion

 Cardi B

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new single “WAP” may have just won the hardest visuals for summer 2020. The outfits, the makeup, and the hair—but let’s talk about the hair. From a ‘90s favorite to a custom dye-job, the hair moments were memorable and plentiful. The rappers slayed these looks on screen, but it was celebrity hairstylists Tokyo Stylez and Kellon Deryck who created them behind-the-scenes. Tokyo worked her magic on her long-time client Cardi, while Kellon waved his wand over Megan’s mane.

Now that you’ve watched the video, get a closer look at all the major hair moments below.

The '90s Prom Updo

The '90s are have been having a moment, so it only makes sense this coveted prom style resurfaces too. What better way to make its grand entrance into the twenty-first century than on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion?

Tokyo Stylez is the mastermind behind this hair that requires loads of hair spray, tons of gel and probably the magical touch of a celebrity hairstylist.

The Wig With White Tiger Stripes

If you thought this was zebra print, think again. Kellon Deryck posted a photo of the custom wig he created captioned, “White tiger stripes 😍 Killed this moment!” We couldn’t agree more and Megan was obviously thrilled with this supreme dye job. She shared a shot from "WAP" saying it was her “favorite look.”

The Custom Chain-Link Ponytail

Cardi loves cuban links. The proof is in her hefty jewelry collection and now her hair. This chain-link ponytail, courtesy of Tokyo Stylez, was inspired by a similar look featured in the new show Legendary on HBOMax. The original style was crafted by Emmy-nominated hair stylist, Greg Bazemore, who was most recently recognized for his work in Pose.

The Ultra-Violet Vibes

This look didn’t make the video, but Megan brought back the ‘90s prom updo one more time for the video’s premiere, this time with a violet twist. Her purple hair completes this monochromatic outfit. Who else is matching their hair with their clothes now?
