There is nothing quite like the ritual of applying a face mask whether it's whilst in the bath, lounging on the sofa in front of Netflix or reading a book in bed. In fact, some get to work while you sleep—that's serious multitasking right there. Not only is slathering on a face mask and whiling away the minutes as it does the hard work super relaxing, but also, face masks these days are expertly concocted to bring facial-worthy results at home. Seriously, the 13 face masks below tackle everything from glow-boosting exfoliation to skin plumping and even firming.

When it comes to a face mask, there are a couple of things to consider. The texture is key (do you prefer a sheet mask, clay, gel or cream?), and often this is determined by the result you want. Hydrating and nourishing masks are often sheets or cream while those that slough away dead skin cells usually come in a gel form. Below, I'll take you through each and every mask so all you need to do is select one (or more—you may fancy multi-masking), then slather, sit back and relax.

For Overnight Firming

best face mask: Kiehl's Ginger Leaf & Hibiscus Firming Mask
Kiehl's Ginger Leaf & Hibiscus Firming Mask $44

The soft pink whipped texture of this mask looks good enough to eat but better to massage it into your face before bed. You'll wake with firmer skin by morning and even firmer complexion with continued use.

best face mask: Colbert MD Illumino Anti-Aging Brightening Mask
Colbert MD Illumino Anti-Aging Brightening Mask $85

Okay, these are a bit pricey (they work out at £17 per mask as you get five in a pack), but it's one of my all-time favourites. The gel-like mask hugs the contours of the face and works in just 15 minutes to brighten, hydrate and plump. My skin always looks seriously dewy afterwards, basically like I've been for a very good facial.

Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask $105

A true cult classic, this face mask is one that you have to try before you die. It whisks away signs of fatigue to leave your skin looking smooth and rested. Oh, and it also tackles an uneven skin tone too. Apply two to three times per week for 10 minutes, then tissue off any excess.

A whipped, buttery balm, this is a good choice for anyone wanting to tackle both spots and lines (why, why?!). Lactic acids soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and kick your skin cells into gear while prebiotics fight spot-causing bacteria.

Super affordable and packed with hyaluronic acid, this mask is like a tall glass of water for your skin, ideal for taking on your summer holidays, to soothe a dry skin type, or just if you want a little extra glow. The addition of seaweed extract tackles any skin impurities, too.
