It’s imperative to know the best (and wallet-friendliest) products out there. Your money is hard earned, and we certainly wouldn’t want you to waste it on a subpar mascara. So, since we already told you which drugstore was the highest-rated offering on the internet, we’ve decided to break it down one step further.
Behold: in-depth reviews of the most popular drugstore mascaras on the web.
This product absolutely lives up to the hype. For me, it was all in the brush. The fine-tooth bristles allow you to apply a ton of product to really saturate your lashes, but somehow it all goes on evenly. The curved brush makes for very few mistakes, easy handling, noticeable volume, and seriously zero clumps. I applied four coats just to see if it would clump up—and nothing. After a few hours, I did notice a bit of flaking, but it was easy to remedy with a Q-tip.

This one has been a hero product for a while now—I’ve seen it in the kits of celebrity makeup artists and models and even bought myself a tube or two over the years. The Carbon Black color is a really intense, inky hue that quickly coats your lashes and immediately looks dramatic. It’s a bit “goopy,” but I mean that in the best possible way. The texture of the formula is what makes it so nice—it volumizes, thickens, and applies on really easily but never leaves your lashes looking spidery. Start by wiggling the brush along the base of your lashes really slowly, and work up through to the tip. That way, you get a perfect, clump-free application every time.

This mascara is great for extra curl. It basically makes your eyelash curler completely obsolete, turning droopy, straight lashes into a bright-eyed dream. Seriously! The formula dries slightly slower than the others, but it works just as well. Just remember to give yourself a minute before blinking/moving/doing anything so you don’t smudge.

This one is super volumizing and really lifts every lash. It’s great for a night out when you’re feeling extra flirty. But it did make me feel more made up than usual during the day. The brush takes getting used to but is really quite helpful once you get the hang of it. It’s designed to make your lashes flare out at the ends in that lovely ’70s way. The bristles are small and really coat every lash—even those tiny ones in the corner of your eyes.
