I've Tried Hundreds of Concealers, and These Are the 7 Best for Combination Skin

I am obsessed with concealer. It's the product I care most about in my makeup routine. I have relatively unproblematic skin that doesn't break out very often and, when taken care of properly, it's usually pretty even and glowy. It skews combination in type, as I suffer from a bit of congestion along my nose and chin and have some dryness around my cheeks and forehead. That being said, I am plagued with dark circles of both the exhausted, staying-up-late-too-often, and genetic variety. Yep, it's a double whammy. With that in mind, I've pretty much been researching, testing, and reviewing every concealer on the market for the last seven years.

After all is said and done, there are seven concealers that have stood the test of time for me. Some are new, some have been around for what seems like a lifetime, but they all bring something special and necessary to the table. There are hydrating formulas; super-matte, full-coverage ones; and a few that fall somewhere in between.

Below, find the best of the best concealers for combination skin. You can trust me; I've taken the time to make sure each is worthy of your purchase. Keep scrolling to find your new favorite products.

Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer
Benefit Cosmetics Boi-ing Hydrating Concealer $22

I first tried this peachy-toned concealer during a video shoot for Byrdie and have loved it ever since. It applies so smoothly and gives off this amazing sheen as you blend it out with a sponge or your finger. The coral-colored shade neutralizes any under-eye darkness, and the formula, infused with vitamin E and apple seed extract, keeps that delicate skin below your eyes hydrated for hours. It's light-reflective, comfortable to wear, and never cakes up. I love to use it beneath a more brightening, matte formula to nix darkness and keep things especially glowing.

Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer
Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer $73

This is one of those suitable-for-everyone, iconic, long-standing favorites I'd read about for years. It's expensive, so it took me a minute to actually try it, but it's all worth it. First, practically every model swears by it; that was my first clue. The ingredients were the second. The brand's illuminating complex is made up of golden silk essence (to combat your skin's loss of clarity, translucence, and suppleness), Japanese pearl (for a silky, smooth finish), theanine (to even your skin tone), and scutellaria baicalensis extract (a traditional Japanese herb that supports skin health). Then, mixed in with all that goodness are fruit and green tea extracts to defend against free radicals and oxidation. The rich, creamy texture practically melts upon application, leaving impeccable coverage and smooth, even skin in its wake. I like to use it on the bridge of my nose, around my nostrils, a dot on my chin, and just a tiny bit below my under-eyes when I know the night will be long and there will definitely be photographs.

Flesh Hide the Evidence Double Concealer
Flesh Hide the Evidence Double Concealer $28

Dark circles are my enemy and the issue I deal with most when it comes to my face (as you can probably tell from the above). Flesh created a dual-sided pen (combining two shades for better, more natural-looking coverage) that tackles both concealing and color-correcting. Both sides are creamy and lightweight, offering up a light-reflecting formula to smooth and even skin tone on the correcting end while the cover side produces a cooling sensation upon application. There are pomegranate oil and glycerin to hydrate and brushes at each end for easy, precise application.

KKW Beauty Liquid Concealer
KKW Beauty Liquid Concealer $18

To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like this one. I hadn't ever tried this concealer until I had to get ready in the office one day in a pinch. We had a set of samples in the beauty closet, I chose a peachy shade to offset my dark circles, and the rest is history. The formula is really smooth and light, it goes on easily, and it blends flawlessly. My ride-or-die offering is Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer ($27), but sometimes I like to mix it with this one for a dewier, more illuminating option.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer $28

Rather than relying on just one concealer, I find it necessary to bring in the big guns. In this case, the big guns are Make Up For Ever’s Ultra HD Concealers ($27). First, I color-correct with a peach shade that works to neutralize dark circles and smooth fine lines. Then, I follow that up with a radiance-boosting concealer (opt for two shades lighter than your skin), and my under-eye area immediately looks refreshed and awake. The formula reflects light to erase shadows and includes hyaluronic acid to keep the skin plump and moisturized. It sounds complicated, but really, it’s simple: These products will save your face in the early a.m.

RMS "Un" Cover-Up
RMS "Un" Cover-Up $36

When it's daytime and I want that natural, second-skin look (but still need coverage), I go for RMS "Un" Cover-Up. It brightens and smooths the under-eye area and minimizes the appearance of pores with this sheer, glowy veil of coverage that never looks or feels heavy or dry. That's all courtesy of hydrating coconut and jojoba oils as well as vitamin E.

Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer
Tarte Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer $27

I have never (and I mean never) found a concealer that works so seamlessly with my dark circles, fine lines, and under-eye bags. Yes, that's right. I've got 'em all. As such, I've tried pretty much every concealer on the market. I can categorically tell you this is the best one. It never creases—ever. Once you blend it on, you'll notice the darkness neutralizes it after just a few pats, and even hours later, the product still doesn't settle into fine lines. It's almost a miracle, really. Its coverage is full, and its finish is matte, so I use this one for times when I want a full-on face of makeup.
