The elephant in the room when it comes to clean beauty is it tends to carry a colossal price tag. Of course, ethically-sourced ingredients and sustainable packaging can cost more than cheap chemicals and preservatives. But it is possible to find a clean beauty product that doesn't cost more than your rent. And we found a bunch of them.

Ahead, find cost-effective clean brands for your every haircare, skincare, and makeup need. We triple-checked every ingredient list to make sure each product fell in line with our clean beauty standards and tried the lines to find our favorite formulas. Waterless Instant

Waterl<ss Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner

If water conservation isn't on your mind during your morning shower, Waterl<ss will change that. Developed as a response to the local water crisis in Cape Town, South Africa, the products work to provide haircare without the use of water. The line, which includes dry shampoo, dry conditioner, curl milk, and a heat shield (just to name a few) are made to offer good hair, even on non-wash days. Their Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner offers a refresh after gym sessions, traveling, and everything in between.

Kinship Naked Papaya Gentle Enzyme Facial Cleanser ($20)

Kinship Naked Papaya Gentle Enzyme Facial Cleanser

Kinship is certainly a brand we can get behind—pretty packaging, effective products, good-for-you ingredients, and a reasonable price tag. Their products exclude over 1300 questionable ingredients banned by the European Union, and their mission is to make truly clean beauty the industry standard. We're patiently waiting for them to extend their range beyond the current five products they offer. That said, Kinship's nutrient-packed Naked Papaya Gentle Enzyme Facial Cleanser is made with the brand's signature secret sauce—kinbiome—which is a plant-based probiotic for clearer skin.

Sukin Detoxifying Clay Mask ($13)

Sukin Detoxifying Clay Mask

This Australian-made all-natural brand is a favorite among celebrities (namely Emma Watson), and created the "Sukin No List" as a way to maintain complete transparency regarding their chosen ingredients and formulas. The brand offers clean products for every skincare need, from oil-balancing to dullness, and forged a partnership with Greening Australia's Reef Aid Program. If you're hunting for a clay-based mask, their Detoxifying Clay Mask is for you. It instantly refreshes your skin, imparting a sweet glow and lots of dew.

Lawless The Little One Eyeshadow Palette ($25)

Lawless The Little One Eyeshadow Palette

Lawless uses the standard "clean AF" (AF meaning "always free"), to classify their products and the ingredients they choose to leave out of every formula. Finding a non-toxic makeup line that is both appealing and widely accessible has been difficult, so, for us, discovering (and falling in love with) Lawless's complexion, lip, and eye offerings has been exciting—to say the least. Our favorite product is their eight-pan Eyeshadow Palette, which features wearable everyday shades in slim, easy-to-travel with packaging.

Andalou Naturals Blossom + Leaf Refresh Toner ($14)

Andalou Naturals Age Defying Blossom + Leaf Toning Refresher

Andalou Naturals has been a pioneer in the clean beauty space, holding the title of the first complete personal care brand to have its entire line of products achieve Non-GMO Project verification. The efficacy lies in what the brand calls Fruit Stem Cell Science, which is a blend of stem cells extracted from fruits like grape (for anti-aging), hemp plant (for counteracting skin damage), Swiss alpine rose (for sensitive skin types), and heirloom apple (to quench parched skin). We're fans of their Age Defying Blossom + Leaf Toning Refresher, which work to balance while avoiding disruption to your skin's gentle pH level.

Odele Haircare Air Dry Styler ($12)

Odele Haircare Air Dry Styler

Meet Target's latest haircare line, Odele, which tags every product at just $12. Yes, you read that correctly. While not every one of their formulas fall in line with our clean beauty pledge—some include PEGs and PEG compounds, which are considered safe for use in cosmetics overall, but the process of making PEGs involves ethoxylation, which produces 1,4-dioxane as a byproduct—there are options that don't. And, the brand is free of sulfates, formaldehydes, phthalates, and parabens. We fell in love with several of their products, including the Air Dry Styler, which makes staying away from styling tools easy. It's safe to say an Odele product will likely end up in our shopping carts during our weekly Target runs.

100% Pure Bright Eyes Mask ($7)

100% pure

Chances are you've already come across 100% Pure. Boasting a strong cult-following, this line offers a wide array of products, versatile formulas, and of course, accessibility. They serve as an umbrella for all that is clean beauty, carrying everything from cosmetics to skincare and even haircare and body care. Thanks to their Bright Eyes Mask, we've experienced less puffiness and more brightness on extra long days when sleep isn't in our future.

French Girl Mint Sea Polish ($40)

french girl menthe sea polish

As with anything fancy, we turn to the French, and if you're looking for clean luxury on a budget, you've found it in French Girl Organics. Their packaging is both eye-catching and display-worthy, and their formulas are rich in skin-nourishing fatty acids and antioxidants. If you're looking for a product to evoke a spa-like feeling after a long day, their mint sea polish (which includes lavender, peppermint, and rosemary oils) is the way to go. You're welcome.

Type: A Deodorant Deodorant Wipes ($14)

Type: A Deodorant Deodorant Wipes

Let's get real. Finding an aluminum-free deodorant that actually passes the sniff test is a struggle, let alone finding one that comes at an accessible price point. That's why when Type: A Deodorant actually worked, we couldn't stop talking about it. Their hero product is their natural deodorant (which is available in multiple scents from spice to ocean mint), but when your lifestyle calls for an on-the-go solution, their Deodorant Wipes are the way to go.

Mineral Fusion Lipstick Butter ($13)

Mineral Fusion Lipstick Butter

Given that each of their products feature skin-loving ingredients (think botanicals) and multi-tasking benefits (anti-aging eyeshadows), the fact that the brand is able to keep costs low is fantastic. Their fan-favorite Lipstick Butters offer a balm-gloss hybrid packed with cocoa seed and shea butters as well as avocado and cranberry seed oils.

Alba Botanica Tinted Zit Zapper ($6)

Alba Botanica Tinted Zit Zapper

You can't walk into a Whole Foods without noticing Alba Botanica. It could be their bright packaging or the fact that they offer solutions for every skin and hair ailment you can think of, whether it's visible pores, dry ends, or even bug bites. Not only do we love that they make use of nature-derived ingredients , but we especially appreciate their range of fast-fix products (think quick solutions for zits, puffy eyes, and under-eye circles). Their Tinted Zit Zapper has come in handy when it comes to concealing and treating unexpected breakouts.

Tower 28 SuperDew Highlighter Balm ($18)

Tower 28 SuperDew Highlighter Balm

Tower 28's founder Amy Liu worked as a beauty executive for top brands in the industry for over 15 years, but found it difficult to find affordable, clean offerings for her eczema-prone, sensitive skin. She did what any innate entrepreneur would do and created a line that caters to all skin tones, budgets, beauty philosophies, and skin types (especially sensitive). Since inception, the brand has made it their goal to offer 100% clean, vegan formulas free of irritants. We've been loving the SuperDew Highlighter Balm, which features green tea to calm the skin along with aloe vera extract to provide moisture.

Block Island Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 ($20)

Block Island Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30

When it comes to natural suncare, Block Island Organics does it best. This line offers physical sunscreen products with zinc-only, reef-safe formulas. We're not so big on sunscreens that leave behind a greasy residue, so we appreciate that the Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 does its job without leaving its mark— it's our newest daily must-have.

Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey-Peel Off Mask ($38)

Hey Honey Take It Off Exfoliating Honey-Peel Off Mask

Hey Honey is a clean line that takes confusion out of the equation by offering simple, straight-forward serums, creams, masks, cleansers, and body products with two mainstay ingredients—honey and propolis extracts. Formulas don't fit one specific skin type; rather, their "self-adjusting treatment" treats ever-changing conditions, whether it be dryness on a windy day or sensitivity from traveling. We're big fans of their minimalist packaging, and while the price point is on the higher end of what we deem "affordable," only a small amount of product is needed to yield results. It's fascinating seeing all the dead skin come off after using the gentle but effective Take It Off Exfoliating Honey-Peel Off Mask.

PYT Beauty Strike Twice Lip Duo ($18)

PYT Beauty Strike Twice Lip Duo

PYT Beauty makes organic makeup look downright sexy. Many of their products are double-ended to make application simple and quick (for example, one features a primer on one side and a mascara on the other), and they're all vegan, clean, and cruelty free. Genius all around.

InstaNatural Vitamin C Toner ($16)

InstaNatural Vitamin C Toner

Vitamin C is an important element in any healthy skincare routine. That's why InstaNatural created their proprietary C Botanical Blend, a mix of five botanical ingredients (including rosemary and hibiscus) which, together, offer brightening, hydrating, and nourishing skin benefits. Their Vitamin C Toner stole the show for us thought—it provides balance, firmness, and pore-refining benefits without drying out your skin.
