While we’re not about that “new year, new you” life here at Byrdie HQ, there’s something undeniably alluring about the fresh start that January promises each time it rolls around. We just can’t resist the ritual of resolutions, even when they’re more tiny tweaks than life-altering changes. Indulge your inner traditionalist and read on to find out the beauty resolutions the Byrdie team are making (and hopefully keeping) in 2019.

I Resolve to Combat My Adult Acne
“With my 30s fast approaching, there’s only so many more pimples that a gal can take. In truth, I kick-started my journey to banish hormonal breakouts at the end of 2018 thanks to an appointment with consultant dermatologist Justine Kluk, but my beauty junkie tendencies have meant that sticking to a pared-back routine of basic cleansers and topical treatments is proving difficult so far. Let 2019 be the year I bring things back into balance with a simple cleanse, treat, moisturise routine and failsafe ingredients I already know my skin loves.
(Lactic acid, I’m looking at you.)”
I Resolve to Take Sleep Seriously
“I’m a renowned napper, so friends and family members are likely to find this one a little amusing. After all, hitting the sack is rarely an issue for me. However, whilst it is true that I’m out like a light once the adrenalin of a busy day has worn off, I rarely wake up feeling well rested. To combat this, I’m going to be giving myself a strict phone curfew of 10 p.m. and heading to bed with a good book instead of blue light, allowing my brain to truly switch off and relax the old-fashioned way.
I’ll also be investing in a good sleep spray that’ll help me to stay asleep once I’ve drifted off.”

I Resolve to Invest in Bodycare
“When it comes to skincare, my routine is foolproof. I wouldn’t dream of allowing my head to hit the pillow without a deep cleanse, multiple serums, facial massage and moisturiser. But when it comes to my body, I’m seriously lax. Therefore, one of my New Year’s resolutions would be to invest as much time into the skin on my body as I do my face. I’m vowing to myself to start moisturising every night, dry brushing at least twice a week. I’ve even got a body dermaroller to help my newfound body products help sink in even further.”
I Resolve to Embrace My Natural Hair
“My hair is naturally curly, but you’d literally never know it. I blow-dry, straighten, smooth and wave it out practically every day. In fact, the only time I ever wear it natural is when I’m on holiday and it refuses to do anything else. So this year I’m going to try and embrace its natural kinks and curls more. Dizziak’s Hydration Wash is great for curly hair, as it doesn't strip out moisture, meaning your curls and coils are left intact. I’m also obsessed with Color Wow’s Dream Coat blow-dry spray, so I’m hoping the Dream Coat for Curls will give my hair as much shine and frizz-free action as the original!”

I Resolve to Make Time for My Beauty Routine
“I’m one of those people who leaves taking off my makeup to the last minute, right before I’m about to fall into a deep sleep on the sofa, which is why I want to make time for my beauty routine in 2019. I want to jade-roll, mask and banish away the day at least an hour before bed and really enjoy the process. I know it always makes me feel great when I do make the time.”
I Resolve to Sweat More
“Hear me out with this one, but another beauty resolution of mine is to exercise weekly. That could be with a walk or a HIIT class, but I want to move my body in some way daily. Whenever I dedicate time to exercise, I see the benefits in my skin. I look more awake, I feel great and my skin glows (if I do say so myself!).”
