One of the most glorious aspects of being a beauty editor is the number of products we get to take for a test drive. Sure, we'd be lying if we said we weren't a bit overwhelmed by the mountain of bottles and tubes both in the office and in our apartments, but we approach that mountain eagerly, hiking boots in tow.
Each month, Byrdie editors will be sharing the products within that mountain that stood out the most. Maybe it was a peel that made our skin glow like J.Lo's or a hair mask that brought our dry strands back to life. Whatever it was, we're eager to share it with you so you can experience the same bliss that we did.
Take a look at our favorites below.

"We all know beauty sleep is a real thing—at night, our skin regenerates and rejuvenates itself, producing more collagen and growth hormone (and less cortisol). And, if you've read Byrdie before, you probably also know how devoted I am to Dr. Barbara Sturm's anti-inflammatory and super hydrating products. Well, she's done it again. Sturm's newest launch is a night serum, one meant to replenish moisture, balance irritating neuropeptides, and reduce redness while you sleep. The key ingredients are purslane (a succulent herb packed with omega-3 fatty acids included in all of Sturm's products), cotton thistle and senna alata extracts to counteract dryness and protect against sun damage, beta-glucan to calm, and, of course, hyaluronic acid to bind moisture. It feels so smooth, so soft, and is my new favorite nighttime accessory. After using it just a few times, I noticed I was waking up with dewier, happier, glowier skin."
Necessaire The Deodorant
"I am not a natural deodorant gal. It's not that I don't want to be (I do) and it's not that I don't understand the possible dangers of various ingredients hiding in my drugstore offerings. It's just that I haven't found one that works for me. That is, until now. Necessaire created this multi-mineral and multi-acid treatment made from silica, zinc, and kaolin clay (that's the part that keeps you dry), as well as lactic and mandelic acids (that's the stuff that'll keep B.O. at bay). It smells like eucalyptus, which is perhaps my favorite scent on earth, and it just works. I gave myself a sniff after a day that would usually result in unfortunate smells and I still smelled like a fresh eucalyptus shower. I'm definitely a convert."
Kelly Gallagher, our senior social media editor, is also a fan. "I'm a sweaty person (always have been) which means most natural deodorants really aren't strong enough for me. So when this new one by Necessaire came across my desk, I was excited to see how it compared to the others. I'm happy to report that this one is the best natural deodorant I've tried so far. The eucalyptus scent is strong but not overpowering and I love that it's more of a creamy gel than a stick that you swipe on. This deodorant also has major staying power—I normally have to reapply my deodorant midday, but this one lasted all through the work day."
"I really like this mascara, and I never say that. I very rarely find a formula that doesn't smudge all the way down my face, or at least below my eyes. I think I just have leakier eyes than most people (and oily lids to boot). Not only is it perhaps the chicest looking mascara I've ever owned, it comes packaged in a textured golden tube, but it doesn't budge. It fans out my lashes just as nicely as all the classic formulas, but doesn't flake, smudge, or run. After application, my lashes look long, feathery, and soft. It's perfect."

"I converted to natural deodorant approximately two years ago, and I’m always trying new iterations, which unfortunately leaves my pits a little unhappy. When this pit mask came into my life, I was intrigued and excited for a detox. It's made with glycolic acid, willow bark extract, and tea tree oil—perfect for clarifying. I usually put it on right before the shower and wash it off right before I hop out. It totally resets and neutralizes my pits. I’ve also noticed after I use it that the scent from my natural deo de jour lasts longer!"
"When it comes to my lips, I like to keep it simple—I’m not big into color and I don’t want something too shimmery either. Glass Slipper is my *ideal* lipgloss; zero added pigment, but major shine. If you're going for that early 2000s glossed look, Fenty just set a new standard."
"To be honest, this was sitting in my cabinet for a while before I finally picked it up. In lieu of some hormonal breakouts, I was happy to discover this in my arsenal. First, I love the smell of this creme—it's fragrant but not overpowering. Most importantly, it's made with bakuchiol, a plant-based retinol alternative which I've found has been a lot gentler on my skin. This creme is rich, hydrating, and effective. It's really improved my skin texture and acne flair-ups since I've been using it regularly."

"I've seen this smoothing, anti-humidity product all over the internet for what seems like ages now, assuming by the name and shiny packaging that it was a glossy, thicker consistency that would prove to be too heavy for my thin strands. But it's been met with rave reviews from countless celebrity hairstylists, editors, and influencers, so I thought it worth giving a spin at least once.
"Much to my surprise, the spray is a super lightweight water-like consistency that's activated by heat to help compress, tighten, and seal hair strands. I mist it onto sections of damp hair, rough blow-dry, and am met with much smoother, shinier strands. Results will last up to 72 hours (or two to three shampoos), and unlike other leave-in sprays I've tried, doesn't leave my scalp feeling greasy, so I can go longer without washing my hair. I only wish I'd tried it sooner."
"Yes, this lip balm is $67—a hefty price for something most people reserve for pocket-change drugstore iterations, but if you've ever wanted to own a piece of the legacy brand without forking over hundreds or thousands of dollars, its new balm and line of Rouge Hermès lipsticks is an exceptionally chic way to treat yourself.
"Applying the balm feels like I'm giving my lips a cushiony warm hug. It's softening without feeling greasy or overly waxy (like a cheap balm would) and smells of sandalwood, arnica, and angelicia, a scent profile put together by Hermès' brand nose, Christine Nagel. It also comes in the most beautiful, sturdy metal tube with magnetic closure, and, better yet, is refillable, the refills of which are less costly than the initial tube at $47. I always feel especially fancy when I apply it, and while they say money can't buy happiness, this pricy tube can at least make me feel just a little bit more luxe for a few moments a day."

"I'm not usually a big lipstick person, but winter has my lips paler and drier than ever. Lately, I've been reaching for this delightful new Kevyn Aucoin launch in Legendary—it's the perfect shade of my-lips-but-better, and feels buttery smooth. The packaging has a luxe, weighted feel that makes me feel like a makeup artist, even when I'm applying it in the back of an Uber."
"Point blank, I see a noticeable difference in my skin when I use this essence. It sounds gross, but it's formulated with 96 percent mucin from snails (and the formula does seep out of the bottle like slime). If you can get past the core ingredient, it makes skin feel so hydrated, supple, and optimized for serum absorption."
"This sunscreen has only been live for a few days now, but everyone at Byrdie HQ is already hooked. Supegoop describes it as 'a makeup gripping primer that delivers a dewy, glowy finish' with SPF 40, but it can also operate as a pearly, liquid highlight on its own. The first time I wore it, my boyfriend (who doesn't notice anything) told me I had a 'C-3PO glow.' Case in point, this is one of Supergoop's most impressive launches yet, and one of the only products that makes me actually want to wear sunscreen for aesthetic purposes."

"I will never tired of trying foundations. Every new launch convinces me that this could be the secret new formula that will smooth my skin texture, hide my forehead breakout, and give my skin the smooth, light-reflecting finish of a glazed Krispy Kreme donut. Most of the time, I'm left wanting more, but Ilia's newest Skin Tint Foundation might just be the product I've been waiting for my whole life. The texture feels like a hyaluronic acid serum—hydrating and slightly more viscous than normal foundations—and it sinks into the skin like a serum, too. It's the finish, however, that's truly mind-boggling. It gives you a glassy, hydrated sheen—not oily (even on my oily skin), but more like you've just emerged from a sauna or had a 90-minute facial. It gives more coverage than you think, though if you're dealing with a breakout or uneven skin texture, you'll probably still need a few dabs of concealer. Plus, the fact the product is made with hyaluronic acid, squalane AND SPF? I'd snatch this overachiever up ASAP if I were you. (You can read our writer Tanya's 12-hour wear test and full review here.)"
"Kosas' Hyaluronic Lip Balm is one of my favorite products ever, so I was excited to try the new Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer--and honestly, it was love at first swipe. The consistency is just the right amount of creamy and blendable, but it's still surprisingly full coverage (nothing's worse than a concealer that doesn't actually conceal anything). It covered my annoying forehead breakout, brightened my under-eyes, and blurred out redness around my nose. Plus, it's made with hyaluronic acid, caffeine, and pink algae extract to help brighten and tighten wherever you swipe, and I love knowing that—like all Kosas products—it isn't made with any sketchy ingredients. Lastly, the price point makes it affordable enough where I can recommend it to all my friends (which I plan on doing from now until forever)."

"This limited-edition candle lives up to the hype. Admittedly, I'll buy anything Kacey Musgraves is a part of—the woman has seriously good style and taste! The heady combination of incense, black pepper, and wood make it ideal for lighting in the evening with a glass of wine. The candle itself looks gorgeous on my coffee table. I'm already getting ready to buy another one for when I burn through this one."
"A few weeks ago I had a scary incident where I passed out while getting blood drawn because I hadn't eaten anything, which made me realize that I have a bad habit of skipping breakfast most mornings. In an effort to make sure I'm giving my body the nutrients it needs while also being realistic about my lifestyle and my habit of sleeping through my alarm clock in the mornings, I decided to give Daily Harvest a try. I'm so impressed by the flavors and variety they have—it's also delicious. I feel like I'm starting my day off right and treating my body well when I have a DH smoothie in the morning. I'll definitely be reordering."
"A friend introduced me to this extremely chic incense paper brand and I've since made it a part of my self-care routine. When I get home from work, I burn one of these (I love the Patchouli scent) and take a few minutes to breathe, relax and unwind from the day. I also love that it looks so beautiful on my coffee table—an added bonus!"

"It’s been a while now that I’ve been hearing rave reviews about this cleansing balm, but I only recently decided to give it a-go. Why now, you ask? Well, my face has felt super dry recently and to help combat some of that, I wanted to switch up my face wash to one that's more nourishing. Plus, so many of my fellow beauty editors are obsessed, so that definitely helped.
"The verdict? I’m hooked. The balm is rich, hydrating, and totally luxurious. Best of all, my skin feels soft, smooth, and clean after each use. If you’re on the fence about trying it, go forth and take the leap. Just do it. You won’t regret it."
