One of the most glorious aspects of being a beauty editor is the number of products we get to take for a test drive. Sure, we'd be lying if we said we weren't a bit overwhelmed by the mountain of bottles and tubes in our homes (especially now that we're spending just about every waking hour in our respective dwellings), but we approach that mountain eagerly, hiking boots in tow.
This month, Byrdie editors will be sharing the products within that mountain that stood out the most. Maybe it was a candle that made our new home offices smell like a spa or a bath bomb that offered immediate nirvana. Whatever it is, we're eager to share it with you so you can experience the same new-product bliss that we did. Take a look at our favorites below.

"My hair has gotten super long and the ends are so split which makes brushing it after the shower kind of a nightmare—SO many tangles. I haven't used a detangler since I was 10, so it felt weird to try one again, but this Drunk Elephant one smells great and makes brushing my hair after the shower so much easier. It doesn't weigh down my hair at all and feels super hydrating on my ends."
Editorial director, Faith Xue also counts this spray as one of her top picks this month. "I've been loving all of Drunk Elephant's new body and hair products, but especially this detangling spray, which smells so nice and quickly detangles my fragile, bleached hair without weighing it down. I spritz it all over my hair after I shower, then gently comb through. I love that it's made with marula oil and sacha inchi seed oil so it's actually hydrating my hair as it detangles. I swear it makes my hair look shinier, too."
"I have eczema on my upper arms, and normal body lotion really doesn't cut it. I love this body oil because it's super moisturizing and soothes my eczema flareups. It contains nourishing vitamins (C+E), essential fatty acids, amino acids, and antioxidants to help calm the inflammation on my arms. I've ended up using it all over my body because it smells so good and smooths my skin. Plus, the bottle is gorgeous in my bathroom."
"I haven't been wearing makeup every day while I work at home, but when I have to create content for Byrdie, I like to put on something to even out my skin tone. I actually found out about this foundation from my sister who swears by it. It feels really good and hydrating when I put it on my skin, and it does a great job of reducing redness and making my skin look smooth and dewy."
"On days where I don't wear makeup (which is most days), I don't need a super harsh face wash at night. This one is perfect because it cleanses without stripping my sensitive skin. It contains vitamins A and F which moisturize and plump the skin. I follow with the brand's Lotion p50 1970 every other night and wake up with a super smooth complexion.
"Don't let the bright packaging fool you—this new CBD line is actually incredibly soothing and no-fuss. I use this 'skin tonic' as a toner and pat it into my skin—it gives a light fizzy effect when you apply, which is fun, but I also love that it's made with broad spectrum CBD to soothe my skin when it's breaking out, as well as ginger and kombucha to brighten and smooth out my skin texture."
"This new haircare line is all about minimalism and quality ingredients—plus, celeb hairstylist Mara Roszak is their ambassador, so they've got industry cred. I've been using all the products in the Replenish line and love this balm in particular. It's silicone-free so it doesn't weigh my hair down, even when I reapply on dry hair (which I do all the time), and my hair instantly drinks it up when I apply. I think of it as a moisturizer for my hair—I slather it on when my hair is damp, and it instantly softens and hydrates. Plus, it smells incredible."
"The way I feel about myself after using this tool (read: amazing) is everything. Let’s just say, getting rid of some un-wanted facial hair has been a main concern of mine while isolating, and this provided the perfect at-home solution to my problem. My serums go on so much smoother and my face is squeaky clean. Such a win."
"This scent helps me start off my days. I love the ritual of putting this oil in my Vitruvi diffuser. It’s a spa-like fresh and earthy scent that helps me feel balanced and shake off my morning grogginess. I attribute my morning productivity to the way this scent makes me feel."
"Because of the current circumstances, I've been spending most of my time at my partner's apartment. Needless to say: I could not, and would not, go on sneakily using his collection of dusty products. I had to stock up his bathroom, and I had to do it fast. First on the agenda was a beautiful, soothing moisturizer. Luckily, Kate Somerville just launched DeliKate, a collection of anti-inflammatory, redness-reducing, feel-good products. And the hero product, DeliKate Recovery Cream, is an absolute dream. Filled with ceramides and peptides, the thick formula works to repair your skin's barrier and protect it against environmental aggressors. It's also incredible for preventing and treating beard burn, IMHO. I love it so much and feel so soothed each time I massage it into my skin. What's more, proceeds from the collection will be supporting World Central Kitchen’s #ChefsForAmerica COVID-19 Food Relief Effort through the end of May."
Lesse has a small, really simple collection of products using all organic ingredients. Usually, I'd steer clear of a charcoal mask because they're generally drying and I hate that tight-skin feeling. That said, Lesse's formula is nothing like that. It's mean to combat breakouts and pollution while detoxifying your skin, only it's made with a ton of aloe and calendula extracts, mango seed butter, and, of course, charcoal. But it never fully dries down and leaves your skin feeling soft and clean immediately after removing it. I like to leave it on for 30 minutes and soak in all the goodness it has to offer.
"I always knew there were people who complained of dry, irritated, cracked hands—but I never completely understood how difficult it was to deal with until I was frantically washing my own hands a thousand times a day. I apply serums and moisturizers to my hands each time I use them, so I figured that would be enough to keep them hydrated. Wrong. My hands have turned into red, sad, crusty mitts and I desperately needed something portable to use each time I washed. Enter: Glossier's new hand cream. It's small, effective, and scented with their popular You fragrance. It's been a lifesaver."
"I'm one of those people who turns on the A/C in April, so my quarantine skin has been unbearably dry. I decided to try this $25 jar with low expectations (even my $200 night cream wasn't up to the task) but after using it everyday this last week, I will probably never put it down. It's lightweight, sinks in quickly, and doesn't pill whatsoever. It immediately improved the flaky dryness around my eyes, nose, and mouth, and is formulated with ethically-sourced ingredients that make me feel good about what I'm putting on my skin, namely: vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, Arctic spring water, and wild Arctic cloudberry extract."
"I'm always looking for ways to make cardio more enjoyable. I try to surprise my body by alternating between running, virtual dance cardio classes, and, now, using this weighted jump rope. It's a fun way to mix up your interval workouts, especially if you don't have enough apartment space to leap and sashay like virtual classes can call for. I love that it helps me sneak in an arm workout too."
"As a diagnosed insomniac, I'm a sucker for anything that might help with sleep health. My most recent discovery is this lovely mist, which smells just like lavender tea. I spritz my bedroom right before I start the rest of my nightly rituals (applying my night cream, reading a book) and have found that the smell helps signal my brain that it's time to wind down. This simple environmental cue helps me clear my mind and actually fall asleep faster. (Pro tip: the key is to spray your bedroom every single night in order to form the association in your mind.)"
"It's always been difficult for me to land on a fragrance I like. I'm very sensitive to scent and seem to find something displeasing about each perfume I smell, but somehow, Dedcool's line of fragrances all hit a sweet spot. Perhaps this is because they're clean, certified organic ingredients, so you don't get hit with a wave of anything overtly synthetic.
"Recently, in a rather genius move, the brand launched a laundry detergent in its proprietary scents "05 Spring" and "01 Taunt". True to Dedcool's ethos, the formula is clean, 100% biodegradable, and carried in a chic aluminum tin for endless recyclability. It's been a godsend for someone like me who has sensitive skin and can only use super gentle, fragrance-free detergents as it doesn't irritate my skin in the slightest. Just note that half of the red cap is all you need for one load (I used a bit too much the first time)."
"During this extended time at home, I've been been applying a little bit of makeup every day, not for any reason other than because it makes me feel good and serves as a little creative time I can spend on myself each morning before I start the work day. Instead of my usual full-face routine, I've been turning to lightweight complexion formulas and stick products so I can easily blend them with my fingers instead of turning to brushes. One of those easy products has been Make Up For Ever's new(ish) skincare-meets-makeup Reboot foundation fortified with ginseng, camellia, and mondo grass, all of which work in tandem to help plump, hydrate, and smooth the skin. It helps me a achieve an even, healthy glow that hides the fact that I'm anxious and lacking adequate sleep."
"When it comes to skincare, I pretty much only use products that are medical-grade or have a dermatologist's or esthetician's stamp of approval. So when searching for my next vitamin C serum, I first turned to the professionals, and learned that so many of them rave about Ole Henriksen's Truth Serum. But before I could press the "add to cart" button, I saw that the brand had recently launched a new C serum, this time with the same banana powder-inspired pigments you'll find in the fan-favorite Banana Bright Eye Cream. Not only does it instantly brighten via the pigments, but over the long term, it helps boost collagen, reduce hyperpigmentation, and defend against environmental aggressors. I'm looking forward to emerging from this NY lockdown a bit brighter and more refreshed."
