The 74th annual Venice International Film Festival has just wrapped up. This year (like every year), it brought together some of our planet’s finest talent against a breathtaking backdrop of the historic Italian city. Celebs stepped out in some of the best vintage-inspired beauty looks of the year, which consequently left us obsessively refreshing our feed to see more.
The film festival is known for inspiring classic beauty. Unlike the VMAs, the Venice Film Fest isn’t an event that rests on trend-setting or experimental hair and makeup. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Similar to their aesthetic at famed Cannes Film Festival, stars of the silver screen go for timeless beauty (cat eyeliner and a red lip, anyone?). Whether it’s a look inspired by old Hollywood or the swinging 60’s, these are the best beauty looks from stars like Amanda Seyfried, Rowan Blanchard, Zosia Mamet, and more.
Kate Bosworth never fails to inspire us with her fresh-faced beauty. We love her lip pink lip and brushed-up brows. But we can't stop staring at her slicked-back bun. To mimic her frizz-free look, try a pomade like Ouidad Clear Control Pomade ($26).
We're not used to seeing Jennifer Lawrence with soft waves, but we absolutely love it. Use a big barreled curling iron like the T3 BodyWaver 1.75 Inch Professional Curling Iron ($149), but don't forget to use a little texture spray to get that definition and separation. We like MoroccanOil Dry Texture Spray ($11).
Actress Laura Harrier paired her silver-sequined mod shift dress with a rosy lip and a subtle flick of eyeliner. We like using Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner ($22) since it's waterproof and inky black for added drama.
Kirsten Dunst went for a timeless look with big, bold lashes and a red lip. For maximum drama, swipe on a few coats of Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara ($25).
Does Amal Clooney ever make beauty mistakes? We're obsessed with her bold brows and shiny faux bob. It's so vintage but fresh at the same time.
Zosia Mamet went for a soft and feminine look on the Venice red carpet. The standout of this look, to us, is her peach-colored hair—something that's been a huge trend throughout the summer. (Read this complete guide to getting and maintaining the perfect peach color.)
In our humble opinion, Jennifer Lawrence deserves to be on this list twice just for the fact that she somehow achieved the perfect smokey cat eye. We'll be using a kajal liner like Sonia Kashuk Dramatically Intensifying Kajal Gel Eyeliner ($9) to mimic her look ASAP.
Rowan Blanchard is another celeb who nailed the smokey eye look. We like how she concentrated the black on the upper lash line, so as to not overwhelm the rest of the makeup look (or give the appearance of those dreaded raccoon eyes). Reach for a thick super-blendable liner when re-creating this look, like the Maybelline Master Kajal ($8).
Kristen Wiig's fresh, dewy skin and slick parted hair is making us want to break out the hair pomade and highlighter ASAP. (By the way, if you're wondering how to achieve that wet look hair, it's easier than you think). Try using Kérastase Creme de la Creme ($37), which is a gel and cream in one. It will leave your hair looking slick and chic not greasy.
Zoë Kravitz makes a brown smokey eye chic and fresh when paired with a pink lip. Plus, just look at those brows and that pixie cut. Basically everything about this looks screams red carpet chic.
Bianca Balti took went for no-makeup makeup with a touch of shimmery eye shadow, pink blush, and nude-toned lipstick, forgoing the use of eyeliner (and mascara?) completely. Leave it to an Italian supermodel to make no-makeup makeup red carpet–appropriate.
Though she is but 17 years old, Kiernan Shipka never fails a red-carpet beauty look. She always experiments with color, which we love. The ice-blue shadow she wears looks great next to a coral-red lip. Try NYX Hot Singles Eyeshadow ($4) in the shade Kandi.
