Unlike other award shows—like the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards—the Billboard Music Awards isn't necessarily a black tie event. Instead of ball gowns and tuxedos, we see outfits that run the gamut from classic to quirky, and then some. The same holds true for hair and makeup looks. While some celebrities might opt for a subtle and polished aesthetic (think nude lipstick paired with sleek hair), others choose something a little more daring (think bright blue lipstick and full, fluttery lashes).
Almost anything goes on the Billboard Music Awards red carpet, and we love that.
For proof, just look to some of tonight's most talked-about beauty looks. Priyanka Chopra walked the red carpet wearing a super sultry smoky eye, whereas Kiernan Shipka opted for show-stopping silver glitter and Cardi B unveiled an ultra-exaggerated cat eye. Variety was everywhere. Keep scrolling to see all the best Billboard Music Awards beauty looks.
It's been a second since we've seen T Swift on the red carpet (or heard new music for that matter). Luckily, that all changed this week when she released her new single and stepped out onto the red carpet with this pretty pink and lilac makeup.
Kiernan Shipka had one of the best makeup looks of the night, in our humble opinion. Her witchy silver glitter eyeshadow was show-stopping, as was her light brown hair (we're so used to seeing her with platinum blonde hair in her Chilling Adventure of Sabrina role, that we almost forgot she was a brunette).
This isn't the first time we've seen Sabrina Carpenter wear graphic cat eye liner, and we certainly hope it won't be the last. The bold black lines are perfectly symmetrical. As such, this look gives whole new meaning to the phrase 'eyeliner goals.'
Julia Michaels wore a makeup look that was comparatively subtle. Look closely, though, because it's all in the details. She wears rosy brown eyeshadow across her lid, subtle black eyeliner to define her lashes, and a touch of holographic shimmer on the inner corners.
We can't decide what we like more, Ciara's super shiny and slicked-back ponytail, her vampy smoked-out eye makeup, or her plum-colored lip gloss. It's all very glamorous.
Kelly Clarkson is this year's Billboard Music Awards host. The singer opted for classic Hollywood glamour, donning ruby red lipstick, a slicked-back hairstyle, and lots of contouring bronzer.
Aside from Kiernan Shipka's silver glitter moment, the most show-stopping makeup look of the night had to be Halsey's. The singer accentuated her black and indigo strapless gown with bold matching lipstick. To us, the blue-purple color looks a lot like a combination of Fenty's Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Clapback ($18) and Violet Fury ($18).
Julianne Hough's radiant complexion makes us want to book a spray tan, stat. We like her peachy-pink complexion and complimentary bold lashes (and that beach-waved bob, too).
Tori Kelly walked the red carpet with big, brushed-out curls, a velvety matte complexion, and a '70s-inspired outfit to match. She looked like she took inspiration from 1970's Jerry Hall. We're obsessed.
We have to talk about Paula Abdul for a minute. We'll have whatever she's having, because she hasn't aged a bit. Her smooth and glowy complexion and long shiny hair made for an unexpected, yet much appreciated, red carpet appearance.
Cardi B has never been one to shy away from a beauty risk. Tonight, she walked the red carpet with sleek, center-parted hair and one of the boldest, most angled cat eyeliner we've ever seen.
Priyanka Chopra's sultry and smoky eyeshadow was complemented with a brush of silver glitter across the lid. The actress paired the eye makeup with a berry lip, which is seems to be slowly becoming her signature makeup product.
Olivia Wilde looked stunning with smokey brown eyeshadow (that accentuated her bright eyes) and face-framing pieces of hair that were purposely left out of her elegant up-do.
Terracotta lip color? Check. Box braids? Check. A light dusting of neutral eyeshadow? Check. Draya Michele's hair and makeup were absolutely gorgeous.
We might be all scrambling after the last episode of Game of Thrones, but Sophie Turner is calm, cool, and collected. Is it just us, or is her draped blush and spidery lashes very '60s-esque? We love it, especially since it's a far cry from anything we've seen the actress wear before.
By now, we know that there are no such thing as 'beauty rules,' right? For proof, just look to Ella Mai's Billboard Music Awards red carpet look. She wore a bold berry lipstick (which some people only wear in the fall and winter), and we couldn't be more obsessed with it.
