Leave it to Bella Hadid to stand out from the pack. The model recently posted photos of herself rocking a spin on the long classic bob (lob) haircut, with an undone-chic texture that's positively Parisian. The secret to Bella’s new cut? It’s got tons of hidden layers along the perimeter.
We caught up with Hadid’s current hairstylist, Eddie Parra, who works out of Sally Hershberger’s Downtown New York Salon, to find out more about the trend. He shared, “Because the layers are along the perimeter, they add just the right amount of movement in the right places.”
The new trend is pretty easy to pull off too, mainly because you can incorporate your preferred part without affecting the overall style. Not spotting the Parisian bob in Hollywood? Look a little closer at photos of Olivia Palermo and Alexa Chung. The cut's side layers are intentionally hidden, so you won't immediately spot them from a photograph. The key benefit is movement, creating a lived-in, model-off-duty vibe.
According to Parra, “This type of layering allows you to personalize the haircut to flow with any face shape.” He even used this technique on his client Olivia Wilde to smooth the transition as she was growing out her bangs.
While Bella certainly adds an edgy element to the ’do, the Parisian bob is loved, according to Parra, because “this is a trend without looking like a trend—very French!”
The styling involved is relatively minimal too. Parra says he used only three things on Bella: a Spornette DeVille Boar Bristle Round 2 1/2" Hair Brush (20) for the blowout, Hot Tools Mega 1-1/4” Professional Marcel Iron ($34) to create a lived-in wave, and Sally Hershberger 24K Supreme Stylist Voluminous Dry Shampoo Spray ($32) to finish off her textured look.
What do you think of the Parisian bob? It might look perfect peeking out of winter hat… Just saying. Sound off below!
