When was the last time you reached the bottom of a beauty product? Nowadays, we're so hell-bent on trying the latest and trendiest wonder product to hit Instagram that it's rare we ever sharpen our pencils down to a stub or crumble our eye shadows so far down that they reveal a silver pan.
As beauty editors, we're especially guilty of this flighty nature, fleeting from one product to the next in order to fulfil our day job: reviewing and recommending only the best, worthiest beauty products for you. That means that if we ever do find ourselves squeezing out the very last drop of shampoo or scraping the last dregs for a moisturiser pot, we know we're onto a pretty special beauty product.
With that in mind, I pooled the rest of the Byrdie UK team to tell you the beauty products that we've not only tried recently but also finished and loved. We're planning on replacing these ASAP.
"This is my ride-or-die foundation. It's the kind of base that has people telling you 'what great skin you have' and not 'your makeup looks good today.' I've almost finished the tube and will be buying a second one before I do. I can't risk being without it for even a day." — Amy Lawrenson, editorial director
"This is my go-to day eye shadow that blends so easily, leaving a pretty wash of colour on my eyelids that also gives them subtle definition. Sometimes I can even forgo mascara if I have this on. It looks great at night paired with a red lip, too." — Lawrenson
"This smells incredible, cleans skin and leaves it wonderfully moisturised, so I rarely need to apply body lotion afterwards. My skin looks better and feels smoother. Plus, a little goes a long way. I may be on my second bottle, but it lasts pretty well considering the Body Hero range launched late last year." — Lawrenson
I'm a floozy when it comes to makeup, meaning I rarely finish anything right down to the nib, pan or bottom. But skincare is another story. Tata Harper's oil cleanser is so bloody brilliant at peeling back layers of eye shadow and dissolving mascara that I see no need to experiment with anything else.
My bad circulation means I get the itchiest skin whenever I finally rest my limbs in the evening (is that just me?!), so I get through handfuls of this stuff every single day. Not only does it cold tang refresh and soothe skin, but it also provides ample hydration.
I know some 'personalised' products are a bit naff, but Function of Beauty's are actually genius. You can customise everything about this shampoo and conditioner—like the ingredients tailored to meet your hair needs as well as the fun stuff like colour and scent. I whizzed through my first prescription without pining for my old formulas, and so I'll be putting in a new order, for sure.
"Whenever I do a double cleanse to really rid my skin of dirt and makeup, this is the cleanser I reach for. It's rich in plant oils, super gentle on the skin and leaves it feeling clean, radiant and smooth." — Alyss Bowen, associate social media editor
"I've confessed my love for this lightweight moisturiser multiple times, and my love for it will probably never die. It's not laced with heavy substances like cocoa butter, meaning my skin doesn't feel overloaded when I use it yet it still feels hydrated. It helps keep breakouts at bay, too. I've already got a backup stored in my beauty cupboard for when I run out." — Bowen
"I've used this drugstore concealer for about seven years now and will probably use it forever more. It gives the best coverage for under eyes, spots and manages to last all day without feeling cakey. At £4, what's not to love?"—Bowen
