I wear 10 different makeup products on my face every day, and there's absolutely no shame in my game. Before you misjudge me for my seemingly excessive everyday makeup routine, give me a second to explain. These products work, and they work fast. In the mornings, it takes me seven minutes flat to do my makeup. I honestly like to spend more time in the mornings masking, drinking tea, and calming my mind before the busy day ahead of me. Putting on makeup is my least favorite task of the morning, but I admittedly love the put-together feeling it gives me when I'm done.
With that being said, I like to keep my makeup routine seamless, and I rely on hardworking products that get the job done. My makeup vanity, which I'm proud to call a prized possession, is overflowing with makeup products. I'm not going to lie—it's extreme. I have enough foundation to last me a lifetime and hundreds and hundreds of lipsticks, mascaras, liners, blushes, primers, setting sprays, and the list goes on. Because you never know when you're going to need it, you know? Not to mention everything is color-coordinated and organized by brand because I'm crazy for makeup and admittedly addicted.
Every morning, I sit on my beautiful, overflowing vanity and use about 10 products, which is small in the grand scheme of my collection. It's fair to say that my makeup doubles as décor at this point, and I'm okay with that. I have my everyday makeup routine down to a science, and here it is.
1. Apply Fenty Beauty by Rihanna's Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation
I'm into the airbrushed glow this foundation gives my skin. I won't ever stop saying how phenomenal it is that Rihanna created 40 shades for all women of all skin tones to choose from within this line. So of course, I found my perfect match, which is shade 420. I pump out a tiny bit (less than a dime-size amount) and dab it onto my dark spots and other areas on my face that need a little more love. Then I blend it out. Even though this is a full-coverage foundation, I use it more as a cover-up on my problem areas.
2. Dust on MAC Cosmetics' Mineralize Skinfinish Natural
After my foundation, I dab a fluffy powder brush into this pot of goodness and sweep it across my whole face. It seamlessly blends everything together and gives my foundation a nicely finished touch. I've been using this mineral powder for years and years. What I love the most about it is its lightweight, non-cakey texture. I can't put on liquid foundation without locking it into place with this powder. I'd say this gem is my secret weapon for a minimal makeup look.
3. Touch Up the Brows With Anastasia Beverly Hills' Brow Wiz
My brows are my thing. They're the center point of my face, and I get the most compliments on them. I like to keep them full, bushy, and bold. I rarely get them waxed or threaded because I never want them to look too skinny. To clean up sparse areas, I fill them in with hair-like strokes using this godsend of a pencil. The tiny tip of this pencil allows me to control the depth of how dark and full I want my brows to look depending on the day. Every day I brush this into my brow going in the direction of my natural arch. Then I comb them back and forth with the other side for a natural look.
4. Glide on IT Cosmetics' Brow Power Pomade
My girls aren't complete without brow gel. I've had my fair share of displeasing formulas that leave my brows feeling tacky and hard after a while—not cute. This glossy texture does the complete opposite. I glide this pomade across each brow and it works like a setting spray, giving me a glossy finish with a subtle shine. Yes, I like my brows to look dewy too.
5. Lightly Apply Tarte Cosmetics' Double Duty Beauty Shape Tape Contour Concealer
Concealer is the one thing that wakes up my face in the morning. I like to go with one or two shades brighter than my skin tone to give my skin more dimension. I recently discovered this amazing concealer from Tarte and haven't been able to put it down. Warning: It's a super full-coverage option. All I need are a few tiny dots underneath my eyes and sometimes right underneath my cheekbones if I'm feeling fancy. I go in with a damp makeup sponge to melt it onto my skin. The game-changer is that it doesn't crease. So if you're constantly on the go, get your hands on this.
6. Dust Laura Mercier's Translucent Loose Setting Powder Beneath Eyes
To be safe, I dust a bit of Laura Mercier's setting powder underneath my eyes where I applied my concealer to ensure a crease-free finish by the end of the day. On the weekends, I rely heavily on this translucent powder when I'm baking my makeup. A makeup woe for women of color is finding a setting powder that's truly translucent. This is a winner and will not give you a flashback effect.
7. Sweep on Guerlain's Terracotta Bronzing Powder
Next, I sweep this bronzing powder onto the hollows of my cheeks and my hairline area. It's slightly deeper than my skin tone, so I love the way it carves a subtle contour into my skin. This Guerlain powder has the perfect amount of glow to it so I can skip the highlighter.
8. Lightly Apply MAC Cosmetics' Powder Blush
This is probably the most throwback beauty product I own and love. I discovered it during my freshman year of college and haven't turned back since. It has deep chocolate and red undertones that look so stunning on women with deep skin tones. I realized how universally gorgeous this blush is when I was getting ready with seven girls for a party and it seriously looked stunning on everyone. A little goes a long way with this highly pigmented blush. I lightly sweep it on top of my bronzer and it elevates my soft contour and gives my cheeks a nice flush.
9. Get the Falsie Effect With La Roche-Posay's Toleraine Extension Mascara
This drugstore gem is a newer addition to my everyday makeup routine. My previous go-to mascara shall remain nameless because this one wins by a landslide. The spoolie separates my lashes perfectly, and in just one coat, I have super-voluminous lashes. I like to go for the natural look with the rest of my makeup and go dramatic with my lashes. I'm all for the falsie effect achieved from this mascara, which draws so much attention to my eyes and brows. Plus, I don't have the time to apply multiple coats to my lashes in the morning. In about 30 seconds, my lashes look on point, and it's all thanks to this mascara.
10. Apply Inglot's Matte Lipstick in 449
Lipstick is my vice, so I switch up my shades often. When I don't want to commit to a bright red lipstick or any other color I'm feeling for the day, I always reach for this nude. It's the perfect nude for my skin tone and looks like my natural lips but better. Its creamy, matte texture feels smooth and comfortable on my lips for hours on end. I never have to reapply it—and I snack a lot. I get so many questions on social media asking which lipstick I'm wearing, and 99% of the time it's this.
I'm ritualistic when it comes to my everyday makeup routine, especially when I find products that I feel like are made for me. I'm not letting these go anytime soon.
