There are two questions that have undoubtedly crossed any Beautyblender devotee's mind: How gross can my sponge look before I really need to toss it? And what's inside my sponge, by the way? The stains of date nights past? Fossilized foundation? Mildew?! (Gross, but wouldn't you want to know for sure?)
It turns out there's a very easy, very obvious answer for both of these burning inquiries…
Cut it in half. Duh.
And, per usual, we have some beauty-savvy Redditors to thank for this double-hack. By cutting your sponge in half, you either expose some clean sponge that can be put to good use—or you get vivid confirmation that your Beautyblender is past its prime. (If you find a lot of caked makeup or anything that looks questionable, it's probably best to replace it.) And if the clean sections of sponge are too tiny for makeup use, Redditors have another thrifty idea: Use them as nail sponges.
