8 Beauty Products NYC Ballet Dancers Use and the One Product They Avoid

Updated 03/20/18

Among the many characteristics we're jealous of when it comes to ballet dancers (their poise, grace under pressure, strong stamina, ethereal aesthetic, and natural rhythm to name a few), we are extremely envious of their ability to maintain a dewy, clear complexion. Performing on a regular basis under bright lights and heavy makeup and spending hours rehearsing and training can't make achieving those #skingoals easy.

We spoke to two ballet dancers at the New York City Ballet about how they keep their skin looking healthy and what beauty products they use regularly. Scroll down to see what they had to say.

Kristen Segin, a New York City Ballet Corps Dancer, describes her skin as sensitive and combination. The key to keeping her skin in check: drinking lots of water. "Hydration is key for healthy-looking, dewy skin," Segin says.

As for makeup, it's more about the au naturel look. "My everyday look is natural and dewy. Think French girl minimalism meets American glow," she says.

The one product she cannot live without? This serum right here. "It rehydrates my skin and makes my face feel smooth and luminous," she says. It contains hyaluronic acid to add moisture and a healing concentrate that firms up the skin.

@bpollak

Brittany Pollack, a New York City Ballet Soloist, describes her skin as mostly dry and uses her trusty mist to keep it hydrated throughout the day.

Like Segin, she also likes to keep it pretty natural-looking. "My everyday makeup look is simple, clean, and modest. The only three things I wear every day are concealer, blush, and mascara," Pollack says.

Her go-to cleanser is this one from Lancôme. Its foam is pretty lightweight and doesn't strip the skin of moisture like most foam cleansers out there. It gets rid of makeup and dirt easily.
