anti-frizz hair products
Dacy Knight

For the better part of the year, we pine for summer weather. We imagine beach days, weekend adventures, and balmy evenings outdoors. But what we often fail to consider in our idyllic daydreams is the full spectrum of summer weather and the fact that most days don't bring clear blue skies. I live in Philly, which like most of the northeast, leans humid for most of the summer. As I write this, the humidity level is a no-nonsense 95%.

And while the rest of me wilts in the withering summer heat, my hair takes on new life with pluming frizz—adopting a new level of volume so amplified that it looks like it's from another era (namely the '80s or 18th century France). I appreciate the volume, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't always feel like me. This past week has been particularly cumbersome weather-wise, vacillating between thunderstorms and scorching heat. Just as the micro-puddles of water begin to evaporate from every outdoor surface, the sky turns a sinister gray and fat drops of rain begin a staccato dance against the windows again.

Not one to let an opportunity go to waste, I used the disagreeable weather as a chance to put some products to the test. To turn up my haircare game in time for the dog days of summer, I spent this past week test-driving the best anti-humidity products. Here are the ones that perform best in thunderstorms and 80-degree heat.

Missio styling cream
Missio Styling Cream $26
Shop

Almost every product in the Missio line is formulated for humidity, from its Glossing Conditioner to its Styling Spray, which both boast baobab seed protein. I'm particularly fond of the Styling Cream, which can be used as a leave-in curl cream or as a blow-dry cream. I do the latter, applying it to damp hair—and not just the lower half. It's light enough that you can use around the hairline to help with flyaways and any other sections near the roots that are prone to frizz.

Ouai rose hair and body oil
Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil $32
Shop

I love a product that can multitask, and this hair and body oil from Ouai is perfect for summer days. Right out of the shower, I use a few drops on my body and then comb through the lower half of my hair for a welcome dose of moisture—and a beautiful scent.

Design Me Gloss Me hair serum
Design.Me Gloss.Me Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Hair Serum $24
Shop

This serum boasts argan oil, moringa seed oil, and cannabis sativa seed oil. The nourishing blend strengthens and nourishes strands while fighting frizz and imparting tons of shine. I've tried it on both wet and dry hair to touch up throughout the day and can attest that a little bit goes a long way.

Oribe anti-humidity spray
Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray $22
Shop

I got into this product shortly after moving to New York a handful of years ago, needing something powerful to combat city humidity. I love that I can spray this lightweight but hard-working product over any style to ensure my hair is humidity-proof from day to night. As a bonus, it's probably the best-smelling formula in my lineup—making it the perfect final touch before leaving the house.

Reverie Milk leave-in treatment
Reverie Milk Anti-Frizz Leave-In Nourishing Treatment $42
Shop

A leave-in treatment is helpful in setting your hair up for success—especially in humid weather. This anti-frizz solution is crafted in small batches in California and is fueled by a rich blend of 16 essential oils and nourishing ingredients derived from coconuts, olives, and almonds. Just a couple of pumps give your hair new life and almost always ensures it'll be a good hair day.

Briogeo leave-in conditioning spray
Briogeo Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-In Conditioning Spray $20
Shop

For a spray option, this leave-in option works wonders. You can use it on wet or dry hair to seal your hair cuticle and even reapply throughout the day, without worrying about product buildup.

Sachajuan Matt Wax
Sachajuan Matt Wax $31

No matter how hard I try, I can't keep my hair straight in the humidity—unless Sacha Mitic (co-founder of Sachajuan) styles it. When Mitic gave me a blowout that survived 104-degree heat, the final step was him meticulously applying touches of Matt Wax here and there to lock every last hair into place. It's now one of my hero products, especially during summer, to limit flyaways. I love that it can be used on wet or dry hair to restyle throughout the day.

Rahua defining hair spray
Rahua Defining Hair Spray $37
Shop

Rahua's Legendary Amazon Oil is a frontrunner for best anti-humidity products, but I'm also loving the brand's defining hair spray as a means to lock down flyaways and seal in any style (without the crunch). The plant-based hair spray offers a malleable hold, so you can enjoy a natural-looking finish while still keeping your hair in place.

Aquis waffle luxe hair towel
Aquis Waffle Luxe Hair Towel $40
Shop

Good hair relies on more than just products. I swear by the Aquis line to proactively limit frizz and have been using this waffle hair towel for the past year. It makes a significant difference in the smoothness of my hair as it dries (and also cuts down on drying time to streamline your morning routine).

Now for your face, here are 15 of the best sweat-proof makeup products.
