Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer
Anastasia Beverly Hills has become synonymous with great brows since its launch more than 20 years ago—and for good reason. Whether you prefer natural-looking brows, spiked-up arches, or an HD, Instagram look, the brand has something for you. What brings everyone together, however, is one product: the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer.
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer is a longtime fan favorite thanks to how it deposits pigment and lasts for hours. I know it’s a staple in my collection, as it deposits the right amount of pigment to my extremely sparse arches. Trust me: Even if you have little hair to work with (like I do), this product can create the illusion of full brows. Read on to learn more about how I use it in my day-to-day makeup looks.
Best for: Defining and filling in brows
Byrdie Clean?: Yes
Shade Range: 12 shades
What's Included: Brow product and a custom built-in spoolie
About the brand: Anastasia Beverly Hills is globally known for pigmented, quality products that help makeup lovers achieve the “ultimate polished look.” The brand is especially known for its brow products, including the Brow Definer, Brow Wiz Brow Pencil, and Dipbrow Pomade.
About My Skin: Combination
My skin is combination-oily in the t-zone and eyelids and balanced everywhere else. Since my complexion is mostly even, my typical skincare routine consists of a simple moisturizer with either hyaluronic or salicylic acid and a sunscreen. Makeup-wise, there are probably only three things I cannot possibly live without, in order: A brow product, an eyeliner, and mascara.
Let’s talk about my brows. Being a child in the '90s, I am one of the many who now deals with overplucked, sparse, and shapeless brows. I’ve tried so many products and have undergone microblading, which has completely changed my life and allowed me to feel “normal” when I'm going for a fresh-faced, makeup-free look, as well as giving me something to work with on days I need to “glam-up.”
How to Apply: With light pressure and featherlike strokes
The ABH Brow Definer’s triangular tip gives the user three different-sized edges to work with. I like to use the narrowest edge for detail work and the thicker edges to fill in sparse or bald areas of my eyebrows. I then like to take the spoolie end of the pencil to blend the product into my (few) brow hairs, making them look more natural.
The Results: Full, defined brows
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer is a game-changer. Its triangular tip ensures that you always have a sharp edge to work with, and the packaging design makes it easy to hold. The pigmented, creamy texture makes the product easy to apply, and the spoolie at the end makes filling and blending quick and efficient and gives you a natural, matte finish. Although not transfer-proof, the product lasts all day on the skin undisturbed and can easily be removed with a wipe or cleanser at the end of the day; just blot on sweaty days.
This product comes in 12 shades that range from light to dark in a variety of undertones, so most people should be able to find a shade that works for them. I did not experience any dryness or irritation, and I couldn't detect any discernible scents or smells.
The Value: Right on
There is a considerable range in prices for brow products, from a few bucks for drugstore options to almost-triple digit tags for “high-end” brands. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer is right in the middle of the range at $23.
Similar Products: You have options
Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift: Retailing at $25 for 0.02 g of product, Charlotte Tilbury's Brow Lift is a pricier option, but delivers similar results in a refillable component. However, the shade range is limited, with only eight colors to choose from.
Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil: Benefit's Goof Proof Brow Pencil ($24) delivers similar results as Brow Definer and also comes in 12 shades, with more tones geared toward lighter hair colors. This option provides more product at 0.34 g and creamier consistency, which requires a gentler hand.
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer continues to be beloved by makeup artists and amateurs alike—and it deserves the hype. It is an almost perfect, all-in-one brow product and is recommended for anyone who wants to give their brows a little (or a lot) of “oomph” without breaking the bank.
