For many beauty lovers, the number one product they can’t live without is a toss up between mega lash-enhancing mascara and creamy, blendable concealer. We’re here to break the tie. A good concealer camouflages imperfections and hides the evidence of last night’s late night happy hour, but it can do so much more.

Ever feel like there’s a primer for everything? Between lash, lid, lip and face primers, that’s a lot of product. To streamline your makeup bag, use a thin layer of concealer on eyelids as an eye shadow base. It will neutralize discoloration and create an even, blank canvas for your eye makeup. Just apply it with a brush to avoid depositing your finger’s oils onto your lids, and set it with a dusting of loose powder.
If the super luminizing, shimmery highlighters overwhelm you, you don’t have to give up on highlighting altogether. Concealer that’s a half shade or one shade lighter than your complexion (under-eye concealer usually falls into this category) can be used as a subtle highlight, bringing light—without the luminous sheen—to the brow bones, cheekbones, and center of the nose.
If you’ve ever fallen madly in love with a lipstick only to be disappointed by the color payoff on your lips, you’re not alone. The pigment of your natural lip can alter the color. Get a true-to-tone hue by starting with concealer. Pat your lips with cream concealer, then apply lipstick, and watch the pigment pop.
Ever arrive at your vacation destination, open up your cosmetics case, and realize you forgot to pack your foundation? Take a deep breath because as long your cover-up made it through security, you’ll be fine. In a pinch, mix concealer and face lotion to create a light foundation, and build up the coverage by adding more concealer.
When in doubt, bold brows and a bright lip is always a solid beauty strategy. A quick, no-fuss way to give eyebrows an extra dose of definition (whether they’re bold or bare) is to outline them in concealer. Use a small, precision brush to trace your brows in concealer, and then simply blend out the lines with your finger. The same trick works for making a statement lip color pop. Next time you wear a red lip, try using concealer and a brush to clean up the edges and perfect the shape.
