The Most Standout Beauty Looks at the 2019 SAG Awards

Updated 07/06/19

While there's undeniably a weight that a vote from the Hollywood Foreign Press or the Academy holds (albeit controversy often notwithstanding), there's a certain camaraderie that comes with earning a nomination and—even better—a win from SAG-AFTRA. The Screen Actors Guild Awards is the award show for the actors, by the actors—a chance for thespians to recognize their peers for their outstanding work, perennially as it relates to the lens of the audience rather than the critics (which has made for fascinating discrepancies between SAG wins and those of the upcoming Oscars).

The SAG Awards red carpet (or in the case of this year's 25th anniversary celebration, silver carpet), is certainly not without its glamor, but historically, the reverberating solidarity of the evening brings a warmer, more relaxed vibe that lends itself to especially experimental looks. We'll be keeping a close eye on Gaga (who, let's be honest, is always experimental), Lupita Nyong'o, Emily Blunt, and Sandra Oh in particular, but all of our favorite looks of the evening are outlined in the gallery below.

Amy Adams SAG Awards 2019

Amy Adams' ballerina bun, crafted by TRESemmé Celebrity Stylist, John D, and simple makeup (all thanks to makeup artist Stephen Sollitto and Burt's Bees products including the Nourishing MascaraEyeshadow Trio in Shimmering Nudes, and Glossy Liquid Lipstick in Blush Brook) perfectly contrast a structural Céline LBD.

Yara Shahidi's diffused petal-pink lids pair perfectly with a pale blush sequined gown-jumpsuit combo. The effect was actually created by makeup artist Emily Cheng using lip products (Bobbi Brown Luxe Matte Lip Color in Rebel Rose and Bobbi Brown Blush in Pale Pink). Her hair was left natural and styled with Suave Professionals for Natural Hair Curl Defining Cream.

Statements abound with Sandra Oh's look tonight, from her thick black cat eye, to her curly bangs juxtaposed with a sleek top knot, to her flowing crimson satin-and-sequined dress.

Megan Mullally SAG Awards 2019

Hostess with the mostess Megan Mullally looks elegant in a low chignon with waved pieces framing her face.

Laura Harrier SAG Awards 2019

Note to self: Pair a hot pink lip with a glamorous hot pink gown like Laura Harrier did here. Translation: You can never have too much pink.

Lady Gaga SAG Awards 2019

Lady Gaga matched her hair to her lilac dress at the Golden Globes, seemingly doing the same tonight with her white-platinum hair and fringe-trimmed white gown. Case in point: There's certainly nothing wrong with being matchy-matchy.

Rumer Willis

Rumer Willis' exaggerated bronze smoky eye and sleek bob are the subject of Pinterest beauty inspiration for seasons to come.

Madeline Brewer SAG Awards 2019

Makeup artist Jenna Kristina used Maybelline Tattoo Studio eye pencil to give Madeline Brewer a thick black liner moment to match the black velvet ribbon used to accent her tucked-in pony.

Sofia Hublitz SAG Awards 2017

Ozark actress Sofia Hublitz is a vision in a bright cherry red lip and flimsy waves—an ode to new Hollywood glam.

Lupita Nyong'o SAG Awards 2019

Box braids accented with clear beads, a juicy red lip (the product of four different items: Lancôme Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm, Le Lip Liner in Amandelle, L’Absolu Rouge in 151, and Absolut Rouge L’Absolu Lacquer Gloss in 134 Be Brilliant), and an off-the-shoulder Vera Wang jacket all make for one of Lupita Nyong'o's most memorable award show moments.

Elisabeth Moss SAG Awards 2019

Hairstylist Sunnie Brook went old-school for Elisabeth Moss' hair, using Velcro rollers to offer big volume and a slight bend. To keep the look in place, she misted Biolage Freeze Fix Holding Spray

Rachel Brosnahan

Rachel Brosnahan is giving us modern-day '70s Priscilla Presley and June Carter Cash vibes with her sleek middle part and slightly lifted crown.

Danai Gurira SAG Awards 2019

Larry Sims was inspired by Danai Gurira's feather-clad dress and thus created a "regal, textured, chic shape with her natural hair." To implement definition and moisture, he massaged Biolage Curl Defining Styling Butter into her hair.

Emily Blunt 2019 SAG Awards

Emily Blunt hysterically joked that her SAG win blew her slicked hair back. Her style was a vision both coming and going: the back, if you missed it, was a low chignon accented with a criss-cross rhinestone Lelet barrette. Also of note is her baby-pink lip, courtesy of Rouge Dior in 657-Romantic

Robin Wright SAG Awards

Robin Wright's barely-there makeup and tousled waves are understated and complimentary, especially when paired with her deep-v neckline and gunmetal gown.

Emma Stone SAG Awards 2019

Emma Stone is a gilded beauty, matching subtle gold liner to her metallic top, along with glitzy gold piping wrapped throughout her twisted updo. On her lips, makeup artist Rachel Goodwin used Sisley's new Le Phyto Rouge Lipstick in #33 Orange Sevilla for a pop of color.

Glenn Close 2019 SAG Awards

Inspired by the Swarovski crystals and Cartier diamonds adorning Glenn Close's outfit, her hairstylist Brant Mayfield wanted to echo their shine by giving her style a subtle sheen. Before blowdrying, Mayfield worked Leonor Greyl Sérum de Soie Sublimateur and Mousse Au Lotus Volumatrice into the ends for smoothness and hold.

Clearly, pairing your makeup to your dress was the trend of the evening. Keri Russel proves silver looks good in every aspect, wearing the metallic hue in dress, earring, and eyeshadow form.

Margot Robbie SAG Awards 2019

Margot Robbie never disappoints, even in a pared-down beauty look. Makeup artist Pati Dubroff created a slightly shimmery, dewy fresh face against hairstylist Bryce Scarlett's faint waves.

Constance Wu 2019 SAG Awards

Rather than tucking away the bobby pins, stylist Anh Co Tran had Constance Wu wear them as an accessory, pinning back the side of her wavy hair (done with the Sultra After Hours Collection 1-inch Titanium Styling Wand) to create more dimension.

Lucy Boynton 2019 SAG Awards

If '60s Twiggy were to be given a 2019 update, this look on Lucy Boynton would be the result. Makeup artist Jo Baker wanted to create a look that was "stark, punky, and vampy but in a really modern simplistic way." Just above the crease, she arched Chanel Precision Eye Definer in 01 Noir and complimented the look with Victoria's Secret Velvet Matte Cream Liquid Lip in Love diffused onto the lips with a fluffy eyeshadow brush.

Melanie Liburd 2019 SAG Awards

The secret behind Melanie Liburd's glow is a mixture of AVYA skincare products, particularly the Anti-Aging Power Serum massed into the skin and Night Moisturizer placed along the perimeter of the face and cheekbones for extra dewiness.
