Here Are All the Awe-Inspiring Beauty Looks at the 2019 Oscars

Now that we’re nearing the end of this year's award season (catch up on our favorite looks from the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and Grammys here), we can’t help but feel a renewed sense of excitement for the whimsical, artistic, and awe-inspiring beauty looks set to come down the carpet. Actors and their teams have been turning it out—from Laura Harrier and Lucy Boynton to Lady Gaga and Lupita Nyong'o—making beauty feel fun and fresh again. Not to mention, since the show is set to run for three full hours, sans host, we may need all the sparkles, shine, and gloss we can get.

While each actor is asked about their outfit, we're busy looking at their hair and makeup. Who will do sleek and straight? Nude or bold? The anticipation is killing us. Amandla Stenberg killed this look—their hairstylist, Vernon François created knotted braid finger waves using the Styling~Cream ($15) and Pure~Fro Hold And Shine Serum ($21) from his namesake brand, as well as Got2b's Glued Blasting Freeze Spray ($8) and Oribe's Dry Texturizing Spray. It's chic, fresh, and absolutely gorgeous paired with a thin feline flick and not much else. For their first trip down the Oscars red carpet, they certainly look like a seasoned vet.

Our girl Justine Marjan worked with Ashley Graham ahead of the Oscars red carpet, creating a slick, middle-parted bun adorned with black velvet bows. First, Marjan prepped Graham's damp hair with Tresemmé's Thermal Creations Blow Dry Balm ($5), and ironed it once it was dry. Then, she applied Tres Two Extra Hold Gel ($5) and Jennifer Behr's Velvet Bow Hairclip ($130) to top it all off.

Emilia Clarke paired a rosy, pink cheek with a matching berry matte lipstick—creating a makeup look that is natural and joyful as well as put-together in equal measure. The secret? Clarke worked with makeup artist Jillian Dempsey who used a Japanese gold sculpting bar to keep her skin looking lifted, contoured, and sculpted. The 24-carat, gold plated, vibrating t-bar mimics the effects of a massage, instantly relaxing facial muscles to release tension.

Celebrity hairstylist Mara Roszak opted for a simple, sleek, sculptural bun for Emma Stone's Oscars look. "Emma’s Louis Vuitton dress is so striking, with these strong elements," she says. Roszak continues: "It’s elegant, sleek and high-shine, and I wanted the hair to match." To create the look, she parted Stone's hair to the side and added two-inch Velcro rollers to the tops and sides for even more volume. "I sprayed the hair with Leonor Greyl Voluforme Styling Spray ($36), and let the rollers set and cool before pulling the hair into a low, tight ponytail, securing with an elastic," Roszak explains. Then, she applied Éclat Naturel Styling Cream ($46).

Laura Harrier has seemed to master looking natural and fancy all at the same time. Her hair, a romantic-looking bun with face-framing waves is the perfect example. It's not precise, but it's perfect nonetheless. The look was dreamed up by her stylist, celebrity hairstylist Jennifer Yepez, who took inspiration from her natural curls. "We loved that it was feminine, soft, and pretty without looking too done. It’s fresh and young," Yepez says. To get the right texture, she rubbed a quarter-size amount of All in One Dry Shampoo Texturizing Spray ($29) in her hands and massaged it into Harrier's hair to break up the curls. That paired with a sheer gloss and baby blue shadow is a recipe for Oscars excellence.

Lady Gaga went Old Hollywood this time around, with her own performative twist. Everything was over-the-top from her diamonds to her structural 'do. She worked with celebrity hairstylist Frederic Aspiras, who applied Joico's Blonde Life Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil ($23) and Hair Shake Finishing Texturizing Spray ($19).

My first reaction when I saw Charlize Theron come on the screen was, "Oh shit." I couldn't help it. She is a flawless piece of art and I'll never stop lusting after her hair and makeup looks (and toned bod, obviously). Tonight, she stepped out with a new chocolate brown crop, orange-red lipstick, and cheeks to match. She prepped with Dior's Capture Youth New Skin Effect Enzyme Solution ($65) and applied Forever Skin Glow Radiant Perfection Skin-Caring Foundation ($52) and Dior Addict Stellar Shine in Riviera Star ($30). For her enviable hair, she worked with celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel. He says of the look: "I envisioned taking her hair to a luxe and rich shade of brown that would enhance those gorgeous blue eyes. I wanted a sexy side-swept bob that was luxurious, timeless, and chic." Abergel used Ghd's Platinum+ Styler ($249) to create that shiny finish and "just the right amount of movement to accentuate the cut," he explains. Goals, you know?

Glenn Close is Hollywood royalty, and it shows: "There’s something regal about how she looks tonight,” her hairstylist Brant Mayfield gushes. He continues, "I wanted to create something with movement and pieceyness, but that would hold,” Mayfield shares. He applied Leonor Greyl's Au Lotus Volumizing Mousse ($46) from mid-shaft through the ends and finger dried her hair, shaping it with his hands, until it was about 90% dry. Then, he smoothed and fine-tuned, section by section, keeping the hair tight to her neck to keep it soft. Next came Leonor Greyl's Éclat Naturel Styling Cream ($46), "probably my favorite product ever made," Mayfield muses.

Maya Rudolph worked with celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern who used "feminine and romantic colors to complement Maya's statement-making outfit," she says. Hero products were Kat Von D Beauty's Studded Kiss Crème Lipstick in Noble ($20), a combination of Con Amor, Lolita, Promesa, and Eterno from the Lolita Eyeshadow Palette ($39), as well as Everlasting Lip Liner in Lovecraft ($19).

Constance Wu kept things fairly natural as well, opting for a rosy lipstick, lashes, and a few sparkles below her lashline (to match those diamonds in her ears). Celebrity makeup artist Molly Greenwald used Pat McGrath Labs' Mothership V: Bronze Seduction Palette ($125) to create depth and Perma Precision Liquid Eyeliner for impact. On the skin, she Used Skin Fetish Sublime Skin Highlighting Trio ($50) across her cheeks, temples, and bridge of nose to give the skin a high beam.

Yalitza Aparicio, who made her film debut as Cleo in Alfonso Cuarón's Roma (which yielded a best actress nom, by the way), looks absolutely radiant on the carpet. Her makeup is clean, glowy, and natural (seems a trend is brewing, no?), courtesy of peachy gloss, a light dusting of pink shadow on her eyes, and a whispy lashes. Celebrity makeup artist Carissa Ferreri used 100% clean, vegan skincare and makeup. The hero products, according to Ferreri, included Arbonne's RE9 Advanced Prepwork Hydrating Dew Cream ($46), It's All in the Eyes Volume 1 Eye Shadow Palette ($56), and Starlight Glow Palette ($65). Her hair, long, straight, and parted down the middle, is a beautiful complement.

For her sleek yet voluminous 'do, stylist Matt Collins prepped Aparicio's hair with Oribe Volumista Mist and blowdried 90 percent of the way with the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer Professional Edition on the highest heat setting and speed. He then took a round brush and over-directed at the root using the Supersonic’s smoothing nozzle for added lift.

Awkwafina stunned in a lilac, sparkly number and matching makeup—the finish was glossy, glowy, with a sheer shimmer all over. She paired the makeup with long layers with just a slight bend for an overall relaxed yet refreshing beauty look. Unsurprisingly, the genius behind the waves was celebrity hairstylist Anh Co Tran—as he's been serving up enviable lived-in waves for years. "It's a modern tweak on classic waves, Tran says. "I wanted something youthful and chic to cohesively vibe with the pussy bow power suit and the soft makeup," he adds. To get the look, Tran applied a good amount of medium-hold mousse on dry hair and then used Ghd's Air Professional Performance Hairdryer ($199), lifting at the roots for volume. "Once the hair has been fully prepped," Tran says, "I used Ghd's Platinum+ Styler ($249) to create what I like to call the #nuwave. It’s a loose, sexy, lived-in texture."

Regina King showed off the haircut of the year, a textured bob with layers, as well as the night's makeup look—glossy pink lips and clean skin. To create that lovely, glowy canvas King started preparing on the day of the show at The Arcona Studio in Beverly Hills, where she received an 80-minute treatment to collagen production and boost radiance. And, though you can't see it in this picture (find it here), King added a little glam with her manicure. Celebrity nail artist Rae Getter shares, "To compliment Regina's gorgeous white dress, we started with CND's Shellac Nail Polish in Winter Glow ($9) as the light pink base and a rose gold glitter reverse French trim at the cuticle. This design was a way to keep a classic look with a little pop of color and shimmer."

Gemma Chan shows off textured, wispy waves pulled back into an easy bun, which looks incredibly chic with her high, ruffled collar, winged liner, and, yup, you guessed it, pink gloss. Her stylist, celebrity hairstylist Clariss Rubenstein, explains the inspiration, "I love how Brigitte Bardot's hair always looked intentional and had a point of view, while still looking totally effortless. I had that in mind when creating Gemma's look today." Rubenstein used The One by Frederic Fekkai's One Up Lift and Volume Spray ($29) and All in One Dry Shampoo Texturizing Paste ($26) to create the look.

Kacey Musgraves looks absolutely angelic in a pink taffeta confection with makeup to match. Her glow looks like frosting, with a finish that is both glowy and etherial. Her skin is sculpted with a blinding pink highlight (by Pat McGrath, of course) and icy shadow patted along the inner corners of ere eyes. Celebrity makeup artist, Moani Lee, says of the look: "As always, I take my cues from Kacey's fashion choice and her stylist Erica Cloud dressed her in what she calls 'cotton candy confection.' I have always been inspired by the old Italian film stars and I wanted to embrace a modern take on an iconic Hollywood sultriness with a touch of freshness." To do that, Lee used Pat McGrath Labs' Highlighter + Balm Duo in Nude ($48), Skin Fetish Sublime Skin Highlighting Trio in Iridescent Pink ($50), and Lust Lip Gloss in Flesh Fantasy ($28).

Jennifer Hudson decided to go fresh and glowy tonight as well. Her skin looks incredible paired with a middle-parted bun and gold, glint-y lip gloss.

We're so into this side-swept lob every season—it never, ever goes out style. The waves are soft while her root is a bit more structured, the perfect combination for a winning look (and gives us Margot Robbie vibes in all the best ways, courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Bryce Scarlett). "I wanted her hair to have a cool-girl, slept-in texture," Scarlett said of the look. "It's soft, but not overly shiny." He used Moroccanoil's Volumizing Mousse ($28), Dry Texture Spray ($28), and Luminous Hairspray Medium Hold ($24)

Celebrity makeup artist Rebekah Aladdin worked with Kiki Layne ahead of her walk down the red carpet. Aladdin shares, "We wanted to create a luminous, fresh-faced glow to match her excitement about the evening." In order to do so, Aladdin mixed two Giorgio Armani Foundations to get the most flawless finish—first, she applied Power Fabric Longwear High Cover Foundation ($64) down the center of her face to cancel out any shininess and then Luminous Silk Foundation ($64) everywhere else. To get the eyes just right (sexy but still subtle), she used shades from the Eyes To Kill Quattro Eyeshadow Palette in Festival ($58) on Layne's lids and creases to add dimension, and dabbed Eyes to Kill Stellar Mono Eyeshadow in 5 ($35) on just her lids for a little of sparkle.
