We can always count on MTV’s Video Music Awards to serve up some of the most memorable pop culture moments of the year, and last night’s ceremony certainly didn’t disappoint. From Rihanna to Beyoncé to Rihanna (and Drake) again, there were so many highlights from the evening—starting with the predictably awesome array of beauty looks.
While we of course saw so many gorgeous turns on the red carpet, it wouldn’t be the VMAs if those looks didn’t push the envelope just a little. Beyoncé channeled an ethereal ice princess (with a very coordinated Blue Ivy on her arm), complete with expertly strobed cheekbones; Ariana Grande paid homage to one of our favorite campy ’90s hair trends; and Rihanna was, well, Rihanna—ever the beauty chameleon—as she showed off several amazing getups throughout the night. Those are just a few of our very favorites—click through the gallery below to check out the rest and see how you can get some of the looks IRL.
By opting for a simple topknot, the model made her graphic cat eye the complete center of attention.
Queen Bey was ever the ethereal beauty thanks to a wet-look coif and positively luminescent skin. Channel her angelic look with Maybelline’s Master Strobing Stick ($8).
To achieve that perfectly undone texture, hairstylist Jennifer Yepez prepped Baldwin’s locks with Honest Beauty’s Honestly Uplifted Volumizing Spray ($24). Next, she teased and pinned her roots before curling the ends and finishing it all off with the brand’s Honestly Effortless Sea Salt Spray ($18).
The singer opted to go au naturel, baring her gorgeously glowy complexion. Tempted to follow her lead and go foundation-free? Find out how to bring out the best in your skin first.
Stylist Aaron Light gave the singer’s signature pony ’90s spin with some well-placed crimping—using Matrix’s Style Link Mineral Booster Texture Booster ($16) to bring out the texture even more.
You’d better believe that we’ll be trying that vampy lip color this fall.
West perfectly toed the line between undone and put-together. See which 15 products makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic used on her face.
Leave it to Campbell to give Pat McGrath’s glittery new lip kits a spin on the red carpet.
Of all the looks that RiRi showed off throughout the night, this high pony–and–matte red lip combo just might be our favorite.
The model proved that pink and red eyeshadows are as cool as ever. Get the look with Make Up For Ever’s Artist Shadow in Burgundy ($21).
We love Larsson’s silvery, slicked-back hair. Note that it’s a great way to disguise dirty locks, too—just rake a gel or pomade (we love Rahua’s Hair Wax, $32) through your roots and go.
