You Probably Can't Handle This New Yorker's Intense Pre-Wedding Beauty Prep
Your wedding is a time-honored day in your life when the world treats you like royalty. As a bride especially, you become this sort of untouchable goddess on your wedding day, as every important person in your life watches you star in this epic production that represents love, commitment, and growing up.
Which is probably why brides put so much pressure on themselves to look perfect at their wedding—or at least, the closest version of perfect attainable. But perhaps no one's pre-wedding beauty regimen is as impressive as that of Whitney Tingle, one of the captivatingly beautiful co-founders of organic, plant-based meal delivery service Sakara. Beauty and wellness already play a huge role in this New York It girl's life, but in the months leading up to her big day (which is coming right up on June 16), she's turning her routine up a notch. WHITNEY TINGLE: "When it comes to food, obviously I've been doing Sakara, and my plan has basically been three months of eating Sakara even more religiously. I eat Sakara almost every day anyway. Normally, I'll do a Sakara breakfast and lunch and then go out to dinner with my fiancé. Or I'll do all my Sakara dinners a few days out of the week, and during the weekend, I'll do brunches and eat French fries because we're all about balance. But now I'm taking it a bit more seriously, and I'm doing breakfast, lunch, and dinner five days a week for three months leading up to our wedding.
Then, for the five days before my wedding, I'll be on our Level 2 program, which is more of an expert-level detox program. It's for people who have already lived the Sakara life, who understand the importance of eating clean, who are used to eating a lot of vegetables, already cut out a lot of processed foods, and are ready to take their health to the next level. Our Level 2 program cuts out all grains, all sugars—no fruit or sweeteners of any kind. No inflammatory foods, no nuts. And then we include a small broth for dinner each night made with adaptogenic herbs, roots, and spices. This helps to go in and kill any candida, reduce inflammation, and really clean out the body. Then on the fourth day, it's all soups.
This program is definitely lighter than our regular program and much more intense. But it gives you great results and gives you more energy when you're doing it. You have fewer cravings for sugar, and it's great for clearing the skin. So I'm doing that the week before my wedding for an extra bang right before."
"For fitness, I've always wanted to work with a personal trainer, and this finally has given me the reason to do it. I've put together a budget for myself, and I started working with a couple different trainers. For one, I started doing Pilates once a week with Annie Vanier at Le Petit Studio in New York, and I've bumped that up to twice a week now that we're closer to the wedding. I had done Pilates classes before, but by working with a personal trainer, you really get double the results in half the time. I always wondered how people get that super-flat stomach, and I think I'm finally learning how it works because she is teaching me about ab muscles that I never even knew I had. I can finally flex those lower ab muscles, which I don't think I had never used before in my life.
"I also started doing yoga through this company called Caravan that matches you with personal trainers in different categories. They paired me with this yoga instructor, so I do that with him once a week—that is definitely life changing. When you get that one-on-one personal attention, it's like a massage in your yoga class: You're getting hands-on attention and adjustments, and you make improvements so much more quickly. I feel like yoga also helps me to relax and focus. Yoga is like my outlet. When you're planning a wedding, running a business, still trying to be a great fiancé, and dealing with family, you need to have an outlet—a way to decompress and manage stress. And for me, that's yoga. I use it both for my physical and my mental wellness."
Whitney's Pre-Wedding Beauty Essentials
"I've been doing facials with this guy named Thuyen Nguyen, who used to be a masseur. He told me that as he was massaging this one 65-year-old client; he saw that they looked 40 from the neck down but 65 from the neck up. He said that doing massage is passive exercise—it stimulates the blood flow, and this goes for facial massage, too. I'll have done three sessions with him by the time of my wedding.
"I also have acne scarring, so this is my time to really focus on that. I'm trying out Skin Laundry laser treatments, which are supposed to help with scarring and discoloration. I've also started seeing facialist Joie Tavernise for custom facials and dermaplaning. And for anti-aging, I've done the Clear + Brilliant treatment with Dr. Rosemarie Ingleton, whom I discovered through my makeup artist Carmindy.
"And I've been trying a new skincare brand at home, True Botanicals. They have this skin serum that they compare to La Mer, and I've been liking that. I've also been eating one of Sakara's new products, the Beauty Chocolates ($45), which are supposed to give visible results in reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and skin texture and help build collagen."
"I've been going to this colorist named Marcy at Bumble and Bumble in NYC for a number of years. I asked her a few months ago what we have to do in order to work toward my wedding hair? She said the latest you want to start on your wedding color is three months in advance, so you can start working toward getting the color that you want. As a trial, she did my hair one time and asked me to wear it for a while and see what sort of color I like. Some people like the color after the roots grow out a little bit, and other people like it really fresh. So I had to make note of which day I liked my hair the best. And then we did it a second time to confirm, and then the third time will be right before my wedding because as a blonde, I need to get it done every six weeks.
"For my highlights, she's been working with foils, instead of balayage. I think she may have lifted my base color as well. For my wedding, I want a very natural, girl-next-door type of blond—very sunny and soft. Nothing too harsh or ashy or fashiony. We're doing the wedding ceremony outdoors, and it's summertime, so I want it to look very golden. Pretty and feminine."
