3-Minute Read: The Workout Classes That Burn the Most Calories Per Dollar
Welcome to 3-Minute Read, your midweek rundown of everything we're talking about at Byrdie HQ. Every Wednesday, we'll get you up to date on the beauty news you need to know—in just three minutes.
1. Meet the most cost-effective fitness classes.
Some of the coolest boutique workouts cost a pretty penny, which is why the editors at Total Beauty decided to calculate the approximate calorie burn per dollar spent at popular fitness destinations like SoulCycle, Pilates, and more. Piloxing (pilates meets kickboxing) was the big winner, thanks to a 500-calorie burn per $16 class—or 3.2 cents per calorie. The runners up are LA-based climbing studio Rise Nation (3.9 cents per calorie during a 30-minute class) and Barry's Bootcamp (3.8 to 5 cents per calorie during a 60-minute class).
2. Is this popular beauty supplement making you break out?
You might be taking biotin in the name of glossy hair and stronger nails, but at what price? HBFit investigates.
3. Explain it to me like I'm 5: What are free radicals, actually?
We know they're bad (right?), but The Coveteur can give you the lowdown on the specifics.
4. Don't be part of the 35%.
The 35% of people who give up on their New Year's resolutions by week three, that is. Reebok can help you stick to your fitness goals, thanks to a cool new initiative that offers one-on-one personal training sessions in cities across the country—for the price of a handshake. Simply download the app Handstand (free) and navigate to the free Reebok workout option to see if the promotion is available near you. Hurry, though—it all ends January 20.
5. Tampons have never been so chic.
It's about time someone gave that monthly necessity a stylish spin. Leave it to the geniuses at Lola to make it happen: The organic tampon brand has teamed up with Novis to create colorful carrying cases that you wouldn't mind showing off.
