Mindy Kaling’s come a long way from her post-college days babysitting in Brooklyn. Not only does the actress, writer, and comedian have her own show—The Mindy Project—but she also covers herself in La Mer on the regular. “I used to lust after the stuff,” she says. “So when I use it, I feel really successful and like I have my shit together.” Want to know what other beauty products Kaling swears by? “When we are shooting the show, I wear makeup for 12 to 14 hours a day, so I'm so excited to take it off at the end of the day,” Kaling says. She uses a warm, wet washcloth, Cetaphil ($11), and Yves Saint Laurent’s Instant Eye Makeup Remover ($30).

On a regular day, Kaling keeps Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm ($7) in Red Dahlia in her bag. But if she’s on the red carpet, she favors Tom Ford’s Lipstick ($49) in Black Orchid.

“I am boring and get a French gel mani-pedi once a month,” Kaling says.

When it comes to eye makeup, Kaling definitely knows her stuff. “I use my Urban Decay Naked Palette ($52) a few times a week; it has every single color imaginable,” she says. To step it up, she reaches for Bobbi Brown’s Eyeshadow ($22) in Rose Gold. As for liner, if she wants a clean black line, it’s all about Chantecaille’s Le Stylo Liquid Liner ($30); to “smolder,” Laura Mercier’s Caviar Eye Stick ($26).

“I use La Mer Regenerating Serum ($290), their Eye Concentrate ($180) and Moisturizing Lotion ($155) before bed,” Kaling says. “I switch that up twice yearly with Rodial's Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic line, which has the benefit of being both dramatic-sounding and awesomely effective on my skin.”

Even if she’s wearing makeup off camera, Kaling prefers more coverage than a tinted moisturizer. “Koh Gen Do and Make Up For Ever both have great coverage,” she says of their foundations. And if that’s not enough? Kevyn Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer ($48) is her favorite concealer.

On her cheeks, Kaling uses Nars’ Blush ($29) in Angelika, simply calling it “fresh.”

Kaling doesn’t hesitate to name her favorite fragrance: Stella McCartney Stella Eau de Parfum ($72).

With all that makeup knowledge, we wondered if Kaling had a particularly great skincare tip up her sleeve. “Glam Glow Super Mud Masks ($69) are pretty killer,” she says. “A trick I learned is to put it on, then use your blow dryer to gently dry your mask instead of waiting the ten minutes for it to dry by itself.”

So if she was stuck on an island and could only bring one product with her, what would it be? “Water,” says Kaling. “If I don't drink eight to 11 glasses, I get pimples, dried skin, a flaky scalp—and irritable.”
