Wendy Rowe Talks Olivia Palermo's Killer Eye Shadow

by Britt Aboutaleb

Welcome to our new feature, ask an artist! We’re kicking things off with Wendy Rowe, the British makeup genius behind Cara Delevingne, Sienna Miller, more Vogue covers than you could possibly count, and a stellar blog, she also consults for Burberry’s flourishing cosmetics collection.

You've worked with Olivia Palermo many times and her eyes always look amazing. What kinds of eye shadows do you use on her?

I like to use brown shades—dark chocolates, espressos, golds—on Olivia's eyes. Sometimes the simplest things look the best and she doesn't need a lot. I tend to use shades like Burberry’s Sheer Eye Shadows ($) in Midnight Brown and Mulberry, Tom Ford’s Eye Shadow Quad ($78) in Golden Mink, and Dior’s 3 Couleurs Smoky Eye Palette ($48) in Smoky Nude.

Those chocolate and golden tones might be Olivia's signature look, but since she has a slightly olive complexion, she can actually wear most shades: mulberry, green, khaki, denim blue—they’ll all look great with her skin. If you’re complexion’s more pale than Olivia’s, however, brown and blue tones will work best.
