Welcome to our new feature, ask an artist! We’re kicking things off with Wendy Rowe, the British makeup genius behind Cara Delevingne, Sienna Miller, more Vogue covers than you could possibly count, and a stellar blog, she also consults for Burberry’s flourishing cosmetics collection.
Sienna Miller and Kate Hudson always seem to have a healthy glow, even in the winter. How can I look sun-kissed without looking like I'm wearing a ton of bronzer?
Firstly, you have to remember that Sienna and Kate travel around the world so will be visiting sunny places during your winter; they’ll already have a naturally healthy glow. To replicate this when you’re pale in the winter, it’s super important to begin with healthy skin. Make sure you use a good moisturizer—your skin will need a slightly heavier one in winter.
Next, it's all about having an even complexion. Sienna and Kate don't look super bronzed—so it's not about overloading your face with bronzer—it’s more about warm, honey tones. To give your skin that sun-kissed feel, mix an illuminator into your liquid foundation. Use a minimal amount of powder, just in the T-zone where you really need it, so that your skin's natural radiance still shines through.
Once you’ve created flawless, honey skin, keep the rest of your makeup soft—and blend well! Give a hint of warmth in the cheeks to create a soft shadow and use nude and pink tones on the eyes; those naturally occurring colors make your eyes look quite open. Keep lips pretty nude, adding just a bit of liner and clear balm.
