Reviewed: Victoria’s Secret Self-Tanning Tinted Lotion
As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). “Reviewed” is a new series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
As a Cuban-American person, I love tan skin. I feel so much more myself when I am tan. Prettier, happier, more confident. Of course, this affinity for tan skin would come at the cost of skin health, premature aging, and cancer risk, if it weren’t for self-tanners, which I live and breathe by. The thing is…as amazing as self-tanning products may be, they’re just never as good as the real thing. You put them on, love the result, but know that it of course doesn’t compare to a real tan. What can? Nothing but the sun.
At least that’s how it was for me until I discovered Victoria’s Secret Self-Tanning Tinted Lotion ($15). I have never used such a natural-looking contender with the real sun before. The product comes out almost glittering gold and instantly tints your skin with a warm, bronzed glow. I put it on for the first time before an outdoor birthday party by the beach in Malibu. I was wearing a sundress, which exposed my skin in a way its paleness wasn’t ready for. I applied the lotion all over my legs, arms, back, stomach, arms, and décolletage—basically everywhere but my face—and it instantly covered up every imperfection, including some unfortunate bacne (ugh), which the thin straps of the dress revealed. Suddenly, red zits, veins, paleness, and cellulite were disguised. Non-visible. I felt sexier and thinner. All I could see was a tan person (truly tan! Like a person who looked like they’d spent the entire day by the pool. I was obsessed).
The tan only deepened over the course of the day and not because I was in the sun; in fact, I remained shaded under an umbrella the whole day. Basically this lotion is a magic, self-confidence-booster in a bottle, and for how much product you get for only $15 (it’s pretty much a giant tube), I am hooked. It doesn’t come with a spray nozzle or mitt, nor does it go on clear or in aerosol fashion. It’s just a plain old, rub-in lotion that you apply with your hands, and it’s my favorite self-tanner ever. Happy UV-free tanning to you!
