Reviewed: Urban Skin Rx Even Tone Night Treatment
As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
Dealing with dark spots is fairly new for me. My ongoing battle with unexpected breakouts began two years ago, when I was 23 years old and a recent New York transplant. You’d think my four college years of drinking, fatty foods, and sleepless nights would have resulted in breakouts, but surprisingly my skin stayed calm during that storm.
I’m still searching for answers on what exactly sparked my acne flare-up, which I’m still dealing with now. Over the past two years, I’ve completely transformed my diet, prioritized beauty sleep (when I could), and given my skin all the attention it deserves. Instead of being appreciative of my tender love and care, though, my skin has repaid me with unsightly breakouts every other week.
Without fail, every single pimple I’ve gotten has left behind a dark mark—no BS, every single one—so I’ve kept a plethora of dark spot correctors in my beauty arsenal. Still, despite my various attempts (and maybe I’m impatient), I haven’t had much success. The corrector was either too gentle and barely faded my dark spot or too strong for my sensitive skin, causing even more breakouts from product irritation. I went bottle after bottle and almost felt like I couldn’t win until I met this miracle-working tube.
Are you also dealing with dark spots? If so, I recommend that you purchase, screenshot, bookmark, or write the name of this product down ASAP, because this stuff has some seriously special powers. You know how products claim to “fade dark spots overnight” but actually take forever to work, and you rarely see a difference in your skin? (Just me?) This actually banishes my dark spots overnight, and I’ve never used a cream as powerful. Trust me on this one: It’s my new holy grail for hyperpigmentation.
I should have known it was the real deal after reading the ingredient list. Hydroquinone, kojic acid, and retinol are what stood out to me—the perfect recipe for hyperpigmentation relief. It’s important to mention that hydroquinone is banned in the EU in concentrations higher than 1% because of its skin and sun dangers. However, if you use it in moderate amounts, you’ll be fine. These days, I dab a tiny amount on top of each of my acne scars every night and wake up with them barely there the next morning. The first morning after trying it, I was shook by the truly fascinating fading effect. Not only is it the best start to my morning to see my dark spots disappear overnight, but it also calms the anxiety I get as soon as another pimple decides to arrive because I can rely on this stuff to knock it out.
It’s comforting to know that it has anti-aging benefits as well. I just turned 25 and know I’m still young, but preventative products are a must for me. I’m starting early with this blend of all-trans retinol and other clinically tested ingredients that clean out clogged pores and reduce the appearances of fine lines and wrinkles.
Since I know it significantly fades my dark marks on my face, I’m going to try it on other areas of my body with discoloration. I’ll report back on my results.
