While the intense tiger-eye at Anne Valerie Hash requires a bit of boldness in the beauty department, we spotted several instances of the trend in slightly more wearable, though no less intriguing, variations. Take, for example, Zoe Saldana, whose eye makeup at a Golden Globes party in Los Angeles earlier this year seriously demanded our attention! The actress' makeup artist, Vera Steimberg, lined the inner rims of her eye with Chanel's Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer ($37) in Noir, then finished off the outer rims with Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($22) in Black. To further the smoky, mysterious effect, Steimberg used individual lashes and Chanel's Illusion d'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow ($36) in Illusoire on Saldana. The overall look, paired with rich red lips, is purr-fectly party-ready. Another tiger-eye rendition we love for an evening on the town is the one Emma Stone debuted at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards last month. Stone's makeup guru that night, Rachel Goodwin, made the actress' blue-green orbs pop by applying precise strokes of electric blue liquid liner around them. Though wearing colorful liner sounds intimidating in theory, Stone proves her vivid tiger-eyes are the epitome of modern sophistication in real life! The look is easily recreated by layering any metallic shade on top of black liner, using a palette like Revlon's CustomEyes Shadow & Liner ($9) in Smoky Sexy.
Nicole Richie also rocked a fierce face at last December's UNICEF Ball in Beverly Hills. Of course, we headed straight to the source (Goodwin, again!) to find out how best to mimic her come-hither look. Goodwin lined Richie's peepers with Chanel's Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil ($28) in Noir, then used Chanel's Illusion d'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow ($36) in Epatant on top for a slightly smudgy effect. Not only are the blurred edges more forgiving, allowing mistakes to go unnoticed, the result is a sexy tiger-eye that makes an unforgettable statement!
If Saldana, Stone, and Richie's looks are still too extreme for you, take a peek at Kirsten Dunst's impeccable, yet more low-key, maquillage at The Art of Elysium's 5th Annual Heaven Gala in Los Angeles several weeks ago. Makeup artist Sabrina Bedrani relied on Chanel's La Ligne De Chanel Professional Eyeliner Duo ($65), sticking only to the black powder to rim Kirsten's eyes. She then gently smudged the makeup in order to avoid harsh lines and extend color to the outer corners. For extra flair, Bedrani accentuated Kirsten's inner rims with Chanel's Le Crayon Khol Intense Eye Pencil ($28) in Noir and lavished her lashes with two coats of black mascara. Though Kirsten's eyes are more toned down than our other examples, her fluttering lashes and dark, smoky lids are just as flirty and fabulous. Now that you're fully equipped with the techniques, tools, and most importantly, inspiration, to create your own stunning eye look, we've one thing left to say: Go get 'em, tiger!-Tiffany Tse
