Makeup artist Caroline Saulnier applied Dolce & Gabbana’s Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation ($66) with a flat brush, then used the brand’s The Illuminator Powder ($50) in Eva to set the actress’ skin and provide a radiant sheen. “Dust onto your cheeks, chin, and the bridge of your nose,” Saulnier says. (Try Maybelline’s Mineral Powder Illuminator ($6) in Nude for a similar result.)

Glowing skin is the most important part of this look, so Saulnier used the same large powder brush to dust Dolce & Gabbana’s Luminous Cheek Color ($45) in Rosebud along the actress’ cheekbones.

“A bold lip would have been too obvious with this black dress,” Saulnier says about the actress’ Versace gown. “But eyeliner brings a glamorous and chic touch.” Smudge a black kohl pencil (try Sephora’s Contour Eye Pencil ($9) in Black Lace) into the roots of your top lashline, then apply a line of the deepest hue from the Dolce & Gabbana’s Eyeshadow Quad ($67) in Desert. “It creates a softer look.” Revlon’s Custom Eyes Duo Shadow and Liner Palette ($8) in Naturally Glamorous will work, too!

To further define Johansson’s eyes and brows, Saulnier turned to the same palette. “Carve out the lids with a round, soft-bristle brush using the lightest tint in the inner corner of the eye, the medium one in the natural crease of the eyelid, and the hottest color on the brow bone,” she says. A few coats of black mascara finished the actress’ eyes.

To create a “discrete contour” Saulnier applied the Dolce & Gabbana’s The Lipliner ($30) in Nude all over the actress’ pout, then dabbed on the brand’s Ultra-Shine Lipgloss ($31) in Innocence. You can get a similar look with Tarte’s Universal Lip Liner ($18) under L’Oreal’s Infallible Lip Gloss ($10) in Pink Topaz.

It took a lot of product to create the actress’ perfectly textured hair. Hairstylist Marco Minunno applied Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray ($25) and Tonic Lotion ($25) to Johansson’s wet locks: the former on her roots and the latter on the length, plus a touch of Oribe’s Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil ($48) to the actress’ ends. “Blow-dry using your fingers until you get textured chunks of hair,” he says. “You want the same texture you get when you come out to the ocean and dry your hair in the sun.”

Once dry, Minunno sprinkled volume powder onto the actress’ roots. The L’Oreal Professional Techi.art Super Dust ($15) he used isn’t widely available, but you can use any volume powder! Next he created a ponytail, twisted the length into a chignon, and pinned with bobby pins. “You want to make it look as casual and organic as possible,” Minunno says.

The trick to the lived-in look? “Pass your fingers over the top of your hair to achieve a messy finish,” Minunno says, then set with L’Oreal’s Elnett ($13).

Scarlett Johansson was glowing at the premiere of Under The Skin at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month—and not just because of her new engagement ring from French tattoo artist Romain Dauriac. We were awed by her radiant skin, sultry cat eye, and textured hair! Her beauty team says you’ll need an illuminating powder and a brown-based eye palette—and put down the hair brush! Their step-by-step process, in our slideshow.
