Perfume Diaries

A guide to help you find your next perfume!
Perfume Diaries
At the launch of her latest perfume, Nude, we asked Rihanna one important question: Where do you spray your fragrance? "Everywhere except my lower half--I like to spray it in my hair, on my neck and shoulders--anywhere that your boyfriend can smell it," she says. We kept that in mind when selecting a few recently released fragrances to highlight as the new year kicks off. We think you'd be pretty comfortable spraying any one of these scents everywhere--but read through to discover which one's right for you.1. Bottega Veneta Eau de Parfum ($110)
Overview:
The first fragrance from the Italian brand "evokes the suppleness and sensuality of the house's renowned leather goods." Translation: it's sexy.
Notes: Bergamot, jasmine, plum, pink peppercorn, patchouli
What to Expect: Warm, rich, and complex--consider this a date-night scent.

2. Boss Nuit Pour Femme ($63)
Overview:
"It's the perfect nighttime perfume because it's very alluring but very elegant," says Gwyneth Paltrow, the face of Boss' new scent. It might have the word "night" in the name, but it's equally appropriate for day.
Notes: White peach, jasmine, white flowers, violet
What to Expect: Sparkly and light, but still sensual.

3. Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris ($175)
Overview:
The new fragrance by Atelier Cologne to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Paris' La Coupole Dome is easy to wear.
Notes: Violet, geranium, Sicilian bergamot
What to Expect: Floral and fresh, with a sharp orange undertone.

4. Nude by Rihanna Eau de Parfum ($59)
Overview:
Rihanna recommends you wear her third fragrance in the nude. "It's even better the next day," she adds.
Notes: Mandarin, pear, guava nectar
What to Expect: Slightly juvenile--fruity, floral, and very sweet.

5. L'Wren Scott for Barneys New York Eau De Parfum ($195)
Overview:
Scott's first fragrance is a limited-edition concoction for Barneys New York. The blood-red bottle's as sleek as the supermodel-turned-designer (with a rockstar boyfriend) herself.
Notes: Tuberose, absinthe, leather, musk
What to Expect: Exactly what you'd think Scott smells like: a rich version of patchouli, leather, and flowers.

6. Oscar de la Renta's Something Blue Eau De Parfum Spray ($115)
Overview:
A true bridal perfume: the main note is stephanotis (a wedding flower), the logo band turns into a silver ring, and the blue color brings luck on a wedding day.
Notes: Mandarin, lily of the valley, white musk, lychee, vanilla
What to Expect: Clean, floral, and totally safe.

7. Marchesa Parfum D'Extase ($85)
Overview:
Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman describes the brand's first scent as "sensual and feminine," just like their dresses.
Notes: Iris, jasmine, musk, violet, roots
What to Expect: Fresh, sweet, and slightly powdery.

8. Nest Passiflora Eau De Parfum ($115)
Overview:
A "modern floral," inspired by 18th-century flower decoupage artist Mary "Mrs." Delany.
Notes: Passion flower, water hyacinth, lily of the valley
What to Expect: Lush and green with dense florals--like a garden post-rainfall.
