The Best New Compact Foundations
Laura Mercier’s Smooth Finish Foundation Powder ($45) is technically a powder, but goes onto skin like a silky foundation, thanks to hydrating ingredients like vitamin E and shea butter. It comes in 20 shades and can be used dry for medium coverage, or with a damp sponge for full.
If you have oily skin, try Shiseido’s Sun Protection Compact Foundation ($27), the limited-edition formula was designed to protect and mattify skin during the summer months, but is just as useful come fall. Plus, you won’t forget your SPF on chilly days!
Dusting powder onto your face in public is hardly glamorous, but it can feel that way with Chanel’s newest compact: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour SPF 15 ($58). The simple packaging contains a light powder that stops shine, evens skin tone, and protects with SPF.
Nars’ new Radiant Cream Compact Foundation ($48) is a medium-weight creamy formula with a luminous finish. You can apply it wet or dry: use a damp brush for full coverage or blend the formula in with the sponge for a barely-there tint.
Lorac taps into the hydrating effects of coconuts with their new Cococin Cream Compact Foundation ($32): the easily blendable formula keeps skin hydrated with the popular extract, plus vitamins A, C and E, aloe, and red seaweed. Expect medium-to-full coverage that’s buildable with your fingers, a flat foundation brush, or the included sponge.

Another does-it-all formula, Perfekt’s Skin Perfection CC Crème SPF 30 ($42) is a gel makeup that color corrects, protects with SPF 30, and controls oils. Hyaluronic acid hydrates and plumps skin, while vitamins C and E help to brighten and nourish your complexion over time.

A crop of prestige brands have released foundations, full-coverage powders, and yes, BB and CCs in a variety of pretty—and handy!—compacts, making applying and touching-up your makeup incredibly convenient.
