Steal Cate Blanchett’s Rosy Look

Matching your blush to your lip? Why not!
Steal Cate Blanchett’s Rosy Look

Cate Blanchett never has a bad red carpet look—the Blue Jasmine star has impeccable taste and even better skin—but our jaws dropped when we saw her step out at a gala in her honor during the New York Film Festival. We went directly to her makeup artist, Jeanine Lobell, for details. “I admit she did look particularly beautiful,” Lobell says. It turns out the trick is choosing coordinated colors, then layering them in just the right order. “It’s all about creating dimension,” Lobell says. “I only used a few products; it’s about how you apply them.”

The actress’ glow came courtesy of SKI-II’s Cellumination Essence ($150), used as an illuminating primer under a very light application of YSL’s Le Teint Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation ($55). To keep Blanchett’s lips and cheeks coordinated Lobell only used cool colors. “I used a cream blush to make a base, set her skin with powder, then dusted on a powder blush,” she says about Elizabeth Arden’s Ceramide Cream Blush ($24) in Pink and Lancome’s Blush Subtil ($30) in Rose Romantique. Lobell used that same technique on Blanchett’s pout, lining her lips with a darker hue, Armani’s Rouge Ectasy Lipstick ($34) in #410, then filling in with #502 to create dimension.

And her perfectly defined brows—Lobell layered two more products: Nars’ Brow Pencil ($24) in Panama under her favorite gel. “Oh my God have you tried Nars’ new Brow Gels ($22)?” she says. “Normally I just paint eyebrows with brown eye shadow and hope for the best, but these have changed my life!”
