HUGE News for Anyone Who Is Gluten-Free

Mary Peffer

Say what you will about us gluten-free folks, but our diets have become about as trendy as the consumption of kale. Whether you have celiac disease, are sensitive to gluten, or are just sick of hearing your friends talk about their dietary restrictions when you’re out to eat, we’ve got amazing news. And you should probably align it with your next trip to Italy.

As reported on GrubStreet.com, scientists in Canada are making progress on the development of a pill to help the body better respond to gluten consumption, specifically gliadin, which causes sensitivity during the digestion of bread, pasta, and other gluten-filled foods. The medicine is expected to start trials soon, with the general public gaining access as soon as 2018. This is huge news for the gluten-free community and the industry as a whole. Click on over to GrubStreet.com to see the full interview.

In the meantime, we’ll happily commiserate with the like-minded community on Goop and dust off our favorite gluten-free cookbook, Against All Grain: Delectable Paleo Recipes to Eat Well & Feel Great ($17) by Danielle Walker. Bread doesn’t exactly mesh well with the summer wardrobe anyway, #amirite?

Do you suffer from celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, or simply prefer the benefits of a gluten-free diet? While we wait for this magical gift from science, share your favorite gluten-free recipes in the comments! We have three years of eating to get through together.
