Sarah Jessica Parker's Makeup Artist Spills Her Secret to Luminous Skin

Sarah Jessica Parker’s much-anticipated shoe collection launches tomorrow and while yes, we’ll be snapping up a stiletto or two, we really want to know how the actress’ skin beams so brightly. Whether she’s picking her kids up from school or attending a premiere at the New York City Ballet, Parker’s always perfectly highlighted, so we went straight to the source and asked her makeup artist, Leslie Lopez, exactly how to get that amazing glow.

Like so many makeup artists, Lopez calls hydration the most important step. “I like to moisturize first, and eye cream is very important,” she says. “I like Clarins Beauty Flash ($45) and Clarins Eye Contour Balm ($36) too. They’re made out of plants and they’re safe to use on all of my clients.”

The key to a natural-looking glow is making sure your skin shows through your makeup. Steer clear of too much foundation or an overly heavy hand. Lopez uses Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer ($43).

One of Lopez’s number one rules? No highlighter during the day. “I like to use a cream blush, and I apply that on apply of the cheek,” she says. “I like Tarte, and Nars makes a creamy formula that is really beautiful.”

Try Chanel’s Le Blush Crème de Chanel ($38), Tarte’s Airblush Maracuja Blush ($25), or Nars’ new Matte Multiple ($39).

When Parker’s stepping out at night, Lopez says, “I like to push shimmer on the cheekbones, going up toward the temple, and also put the same shimmer on her clavicle, so that the whole look is pulled together and dewy.”

Try RMS’ Living Luminizer ($38), NYX’s Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator ($7), or Clinique’s Up-Lighting Liquid Illuminator ($26).

You already know to change your foundation with the seasons, but Lopez suggests mixing up your illuminators, too. “Sometimes I use a silver, sometimes a gold, or even a pink,” she says. “It depends on the time of year, the season, how tan she [Parker] is, and what she’s wearing.”

Right now, Lopez is favoring Nars’ Illuminator ($30) in Laguna.

If you’re going for the natural look, it’s better to highlight your eyes with a brightening concealer than a shimmering illuminator. Lopez suggests Lancome’s Maquicomplet ($36) under the eyes and around the nose to open up your face; it’ll make you look extra fresh.
