Public School Gives Us a Cool Twist on the Ponytail
Ponytails are the beauty equivalent of jeans—the foolproof classic style just always works, but we're also all about a fun spin on the original. And backstage at the Public School show at New York Fashion Week yesterday, we saw just that: a twisted, rope-like version that fell somewhere between a braid and a typical pony. It was sleek, it was different, and, most importantly, we learned that it's surprisingly easy to put together yourself. Keep reading to get the tutorial straight from the stylists!
Aveda lead hairstylist Allen Ruiz began by adding a touch of volume to the hair with the brand's Pure Abundance Style Prep ($24). He then gathered the hair in a tight ponytail that began just below the center of the back of the head, securing it with an elastic band and smoothing out flyaways and frizz with Aveda Smooth Infusion Styling Cream ($26).
Finally, the Aveda stylists used some more styling cream to tame any remaining flyaways on the braid and the crown of the head, and set the entire look with some of the brand's Air Control Hair Spray ($28). Boom! A fun take on the pony that looks way trickier than it actually is.
