First Look: Prabal Gurung for MAC’s Glorious New Collection

When we ask designer Prabal Gurung for one word to sum up his new makeup collection for MAC, he doesn’t hesitate: “Glamour.” It's indeed the utmost definition of glamour, with luxurious gold packaging and Gurung's signature sleek, modern aesthetic. The colors inside, however, are surprisingly wearable—especially for any holiday soiree. Bold, fiery reds, pops of fuschia, and petal pinks make up an alluring lip line, while the eye shadows consist of softer, warmer hues like dusty taupe and smoky pale pink.

“We had work by artist Damien Hirst and Sylvie Fluery on the mood board, focusing specifically on their use of gold and lacquered hues,” Gurung explains. “It was the starting point for a product that is truly a collector’s item. I wanted to play on the idea of luxury, and create a collection that was both elevated and sensual.” As for the type of woman he envisions wearing this line, he says any one of his brand’s modern-day ambassadors could fit the bill. “She is an intelligent, independent, and beautiful woman with a rich and polished allure,” he says. “The muse I drew inspiration from was very much the same muse I design for.”

The collection is priced from $20 to $70 and is available on November 26 at MAC stores and MACcosmetics.com, but we got a first look at the entire line. Keep scrolling to preview the collection and add it to your holiday wish list.
