The Pantone Color of the Year Is Not What We Expected
Thanks to an expert crew of some of the brightest trend forecasters in the business, Pantone tends to be right on the money with its annual color prediction. Take this year's hue, for example, which is Rose Quartz—might we remind you that people are so committed to the trend, that they're literally dyeing their hair this color?
We honestly doubt that 2017's pick will follow the exact same trajectory (although, never say never), if only because it's one of the bolder colors Pantone has chosen to date. Right on par with the Gucci-fueled '70s craze, the 2017 color of the year is Greenery: A bright shade of avocado that errs on the side of electric.
Make Up For Ever Eyeshadow ($21)
"We know what kind of world we are living in: one that is very stressful and very tense," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. "This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the 're' words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew. Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life-affirming to look forward to." Hear, hear.

So even if you're not rushing off to color your locks Greenery-green, consider adding a pop of the "life-affirming" hue elsewhere: A zip of graphic eyeliner; a subtle twinkle on your lids. If nothing else, Pantone's prediction always throws down the gauntlet to be playful with our beauty choices. Challenge accepted.
