Paloma Elsesser's Instagram Post Just Broke (Then Filled) Our Hearts

Let's be clear. There are many things that excite us as beauty editors. However, there are relatively few things to come across our desks or social media feeds that set our Gchat on fire. Last week, it was our unequivocal love for Verb Haircare, and this week, it took a substantially less materialistic turn: Glossier's Body Hero launch—specifically when, within the hour, Paloma Elsesser posted an epically empowering Instagram caption.

True to her bold and beautiful form, Elsesser took to social media to blow off some steam and let the dust (which is practically reverberating with the internet's applause) settle in response to her most recent endeavor with Glossier.

Admitting to tears, frustration, and, ultimately, triumph, Elsesser provided an inside glimpse of what it's really like to have an "unstandardized" body within a rigidly standardized industry (something we hope beauties like Paloma continue to shake).

"Look, I've never done nude before. I cried 3 times before this shoot. I cried because I still feel scared, paralyzed by insecurity at times, and exhausted by an unfettered vulnerability that I want to present to the world," Elsesser wrote.

The model explained that she paced the upstairs bathroom of Spring Studios (where the campaign was shot) chanting to herself, "This isn't for you, Paloma. This isn't about you. Get out of your ego. Be of service."

Already a home run, her message only continued: "I did this to show that being fat isn't a burden. Being fat isn't ugly or shameful. To prove to one person that it isn't BRAVE to be fat, but bountiful. And for that young girl looking on Instagram, or walking down Spring Street, that she is fucking perfect despite the precarious and irresponsible versions of beauty we are urged to digest."

The model then went on to thank Glossier for giving her the opportunity in the first place: "I love you @glossier thank you for this incredible opportunity, for clearing the set, for wiping my tears, for playing SWV, and for helping me shed my insecurities in pursuit of greater impact and awareness."

We haven't been this excited (or proud) of a beauty campaign in a long time, and according to a little byrdie, we'll have more inside scoop (via Paloma herself) in the very near future. Until then, we'll be satisfied to beam at her building-wide posters with admiration and, yes, maybe even a little bit of hope.
