The S/S 13 runways were full of sharply parted, tightly secured hair. “It’s like an old Helmut Newton kind of vibe,” said hairstylist Paul Hanlon backstage at Altuzarra. “A very chic French lady with glossy, beautiful hair.” You needn’t be French for such shine, but you do need product. Hanlon used “lots and lots” of Fekkai’s Sheer Hold Hairspray ($25) to give it what he calls “shine quality.” At Gucci, Luigi Murenu used both Kiehl's Clean Hold Styling Gel ($16) and John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum ($8) for ultimate hold.

Need a cheat sheet? Hairspray should be enough for straight, fine hair. Thicker, curly hair will be easier to manage if you comb an oil or serum through post-shower. And if you consider your hair unmanageable--or you’re after a super shiny finish--gel will be your new best friend.
