Nicole Richie Models Holiday Beauty Looks in Our Exclusive Editorial

Nicole Richie’s as well known for her sense of humor—please tell us you’re watching her AOL Series, Candidly Nicole— as her style skills, but we put her to the beauty test when she showed up to Byrdie’s studio. Would she, with the help of makeup artist Lauren Andersen and hairstylist Andy Lecompte, turn some of our favorite runway looks party ready? With pleasure.

Richie, who’s dipped her toe in the beauty game with the eponymous fragrance she released last year, was up for anything. Sporting dramatic dresses from Wes Gordon and Anthony Vacarello, her own House of Harlow jewels, and everything from a purple stained lip to bronzed eyebrows she modeled winning party looks, above.

Richie already brought flawless skin to the table, so it wasn’t really a challenge for Andersen to make her look lit from within. The makeup artist used a brush to apply YSL’s Touch Eclat Foundation ($55) before layering Nars’ Illuminator ($30) in both Copacabana and Laguna on Richie’s cheekbones, brow bones, and eyelids. Andersen swept Hourglass’ Luminous Light Powder ($45) along Richie’s t-zone. “It allows the dewiness to show through, but keeps it from looking greasy,” she says.

Wes Gordon Feathered Flou Dress ($3,190, in Navy, available on shopbop.com end of December); Irene Neuwirth 18k Rose Gold Ring with Sideways Black Onyx and Diamond Pave ($6,690, available at Barneys NY); Jacquie Aiche 14K Pave Small Trilobite Bezel Stud Earrings (starting at $3,500); Jennifer Meyer Small Diamond Triangle Stud Earrings, ($1,075, sold as set of 2) in Yellow Gold.

Just a few months after their runway premiere, Dior’s golden eyebrows are already stuff of beauty legend. Now’s the time to play around with the concept. Andersen says to choose a tone that suits your skin, that meant bronze for Richie—“it’s the most neutral”—and layer on the products. Here, she used a clear mascara to secure Richie’s brows before layering Make Up For Ever’s Flash Color Stick ($24) in Gold underneath the brand’s Glitter ($15).

Anthony Vaccarello Bonded Crepe Embroidered Dress ($3,500) in Black; Jennifer Meyer Mini Inlay Triangle with Diamond Stud Earrings ($1,250, sold as set of 2) in Turquoise; Maria Black Tusk Ring ($89) in Black; Maria Black Monocle Ring ($74) in Black.

Instead of a bold lip, try an I-just-ate-a-popsicle lip stain like Richie’s. It’s easy to apply on the go—no liner required!—and will stay put through dinner. Richie’s lacquered hair is thanks to Lecompte’s generous use of Wella’s Oil Reflections ($40). “It smells really great and has macadamia and avocado oil in it,” he says. “So it hydrates and nourishes while it’s styling; oil’s the original way to add shine!”

Richie wears Dior’s Vernis Nail Enamel ($24) in Blue Label 997.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Margaret Marabou-Feather Jacket ($398) in Glacier; House of Harlow 1960 Obsidian Feather Earrings ($68) in Multi; Jennifer Meyer Mini Inlay Triangle with Diamond Stud Earrings ($1,250, sold as set of 2) in Turquoise; Panther ring, similar style: Alexis Bittar Siyabona Ring ($321) in Gold-Tone Metallic.

Andersen used her fingers to apply Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream ($23) in Light Blue to Richie’s lids before sweeping on M.A.C.’s Pigment ($21) in Cornflower with a flat synthetic brush. Try CoverGirl’s Jumbo Gloss Balm ($7) in Ballet Twist for a similarly nude pout.

Richie wears Chanel’s Le Vernis ($27) in Graphite on her nails.

Juan Carlos Obando Sash Blouse ($1,065, 310.276.4400) in Red; Alexis Bittar Miss Havisham Button Clip Earrings ($125, 212.625.8340) in Gunmetal; Maria Black Double Harper Ring ($157) in Black.

The holidays are synonymous with glitter so now’s the time to do it up. Andersen says to make sure you define the eye before going crazy. She used Avon’s Super Extend Liquid Eye Liner ($7) on Richie’s upper lashline, followed by a glittery liquid liner, like Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner ($19) to act like glue for chunkier glitter, like Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Glitters ($14).

Zimmermann Good Love Pinafore Jumpsuit ($625); Jennifer Meyer Small Diamond Triangle Stud Earrings ($1,075, sold as set of 2) in Yellow Gold; Gabriela Artigas Tusk Ring ($218) in Yellow Gold-Plated.
