Reviewed: Moroccanoil After Sun Milk

As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!

Usually, summer passes me by without so much as a single beach day. I live in New York City and between working, sleeping, rooftop drinks, and installing my air conditioner—I often forget to make time to lounge on the sand. Not this year. This summer I decided to take every opportunity to spend time outdoors. I took a surf lesson on Montauk, I spent the 4th of July at the Rockaways, and I ate oysters by the bay in Cape Cod. But, with every splendid second in the sun, comes more UV rays than my pale skin is used to. I brought Moroccanoil's Sun Lotion in SPF 50 ($32) as well a newer product I hadn't ever tried before, Moroccanoil's After-Sun Milk ($28). The name "After-Sun Milk" sounds so soothing, doesn't it? I had to give it a try. And once my skin was a bit parched and red from a recent beach weekend, try it I did.

I doused my body from head to toe in the lightweight, fast-absorbing formula. It was shockingly luxurious to the touch and every bit as soothing, hydrating, and nourishing to the skin as the label boasts. The lotion has a natural cooling effect courtesy of aloe, antioxidant-rich argan oil, and vitamin E and a summertime scent of coconut and passion fruit oils. I reapplied throughout the day and after my post-beach shower, paying extra attention to my extra dry areas (elbows, knees, and ankles) as well as those that had the most sun exposure (forehead, nose, and chest). By the time I was done rubbing it in, my skin already felt better. And, by morning, I didn't have any redness, irritation, or burns. In fact, my skin felt healthier and softer than it has all summer.

Upon further inspection, I also noticed I didn't have a single bug bite from my time spent frolicking around in the sand (more like sitting and sipping a cocktail in the sand, but frolicking sounds dreamier, doesn't it?). I Googled possible reasons for this phenomenon and realized the formula is also scented with monoï oil, a Tahitian moisturizer and proven bug repellent

So, while you bask in the goodness that is the last month of Summer Fridays, beach vacations, and a glistening bronze—stock up on this hydrating savior. Your skin will thank you.
