Miranda Kerr Gets Kinky

Miranda Kerr’s shiny brown hair boasts mega body, kinky waves, and that must-have swoosh in this month’s Vogue UK. Here's how to make your hair do the same.

Like most September issues, Vogue UK's devoted an entire editorial to coats. It features the best of the bunch from Lanvin, Michael Kors, and Stella McCartney, but it was Miranda Kerr’s full, summery hair that mesmerized us. Her frizz-free, kinky waves and deep side part looked polished enough for fall, while still clinging to summer's textured beach hair. We had to check in with the man behind the style, hairstylist James Pecis, to find out how to make our own seasonal hair transition go so smoothly.

“There’s a slight late-‘80s, girl-next-door feeling to it,” he says. “I wanted to create a look that was obtainable and naturally beautiful.” Pecis saturated Kerr’s dry locks with Tigi’s Bed Head Queen For a Day Thickening Spray ($19) then rough dried her hair. He added a touch of Moroccan Oil’s Treatment Light ($43) to Kerr’s ends before he wrapped sections around a skinny curling iron in alternating directions. The key to the look? The small curling iron. Pecis used a ¼-inch size, but you can try Hot Tools’ 3/8 Professional Spring Curling Iron ($30). But “avoid letting the ends get too curly,” he warns.

Pecis combed his fingers through the curls and scrunched Aveda’s Light Elements Texturizing Crème ($24) into the model’s mid-lengths and ends. He added grooming cream to her roots for texture—try American Crew’s Grooming Cream ($12)—then gave her a deep side part. Fall coat not included.
