Exclusive: Maybelline Is Launching a Collection of "UnNude" Liquid Lipstick

Kaitlyn McLintock

Maybelline is a drugstore brand best known for lip products (or at least we think so). That's probably because it offers a wide selection of shades and finishes in both liquid and cream formulas. If you’re a fan of its lip products, or just a collector of drugstore makeup, then chances are that you've tried one of the newest additions to their lip color lineup: the SuperStay Matte Lip Ink. These are bold, fully opaque liquid lipsticks that dry down to a pure matte finish (our editorial director is a big fan). The formula sets onto your lips and stays put without feathering or smudging. If you have tried them, you know they're special. If you haven't tried them, you need to.

Now, Maybelline is coming out with a brand-new collection of shades. The so-called "UnNudes" are all neutral tones that have an unexpected twist of color. To get your first look at these new shades, keep scrolling.

There are 10 shades in total, ranging from gray-toned lilac to taupe-red and rosy pink. The brand tells Byrdie exclusively, "The un-nudes collection is a new take on nudes, pushing the limits of a nude lip color. Nudes are no longer your standard beige rather they are going from deep browns to grey lavenders and everything in between."

The shades are definitely unconventional, as we're not used to seeing anything even close to purple or red be considered in a nude lipstick collection, but that's kind of the point. The brand is differentiating between the words "nude" and "neutral." Even if a color isn't considered nude, it can still have neutral undertones that makes it more low-key and less loud than other options on the market. After all, not everyone loves a vivid cherry red or bright Barbie pink lip color.

This collection is available online right now (so go forth and shop, good people). However, you'll have to wait until January to see them in the drugstore aisles. That's when they make their national retail debut.
