As beauty editors, we get bombarded with a ton of new products every day (we know—tough life). Reviewed is a series where we report on some of the best products we’ve tried. Whether it’s a drugstore lipstick that lasted all day or a hand cream that saved us this winter, you’ll find all of our favorites in this column. Enjoy!
As a big fan, dare I say super-fan, of Marc Jacobs Beauty's Lash Lifter Gel Definition Mascara ($26), I was more than excited to try MJB’s new mascara: Feather Noir Ultra-Skinny Lash Discovering Mascara ($24). Even the name is reminiscent of one of my long-time favorite mascaras, Maybelline's Lash Discovery ($7). Big, bushy brushes have a place in every beauty routine, but my heart belongs to skinniest of the bunch. Ultra-skinny brushes promise to grab each last itty-bitty lash and stretch it longer than you've ever imagined. So, I had high hopes for this mascara. Perhaps too high. I must say, this brush is indeed the tiniest of the tiny, with bristles so small I could barely see them. And while my co-worker did comment on how long my lashes looked, sadly, I wasn't particularly impressed. The formula felt drier than you would expect of a fresh mascara tube—certainly not soft and "feathery." In fact, I had to double dip to finish one eye to my liking. In the end, were my lashes defined and long? Yes. Are there other skinny-brushed, lash-defining mascaras I prefer? Yes.
