Mandy’s Must-Haves: A Glow-Giving Clay Mask, Favorite New Polish, and More
With the holidays right around the corner, beauty might be the furthest thing from your mind. Beauty gifts, on the other hand, are a whole other story (as in, you’ll probably be giving them—a lot of them). This month, our guest editor Mandy Moore is sharing an assortment of goods that are perfect for gifting (or wishing for). Read Mandy's December column below!
Without exception, this year has flown by quicker than any in recent memory. I can’t believe we’re teetering on the edge of winter’s grasp. Here are a few ideas that may be helpful in the gift-giving (and receiving) department, or at least help you fight off the cold-weather blues.
Julep Bare Body Milk ($10)
I know it makes sense to reach for the heavy-duty moisturizer in the midst of winter, but this month, I’ve found myself using Julep’s Bare Body Milk for its lightweight hydration. Let’s be honest: I’m always going to reach for some sort of body oil right out of the shower, but this baby, with its milk thistle and orange peel oil to both lock in moisture and brighten dull skin, is exactly what I need to top it all off before getting dressed. The soft, beachy fragrance is an added bonus.
Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick ($21) in Melted Fuschia
I’m all about a lip these days, and when my friends at Byrdie sent me a host of bright pink and berry shades to try, I was excited to experiment and land on something for a wedding I had to attend. By far, the standout in both pigmentation and long-lasting durability must go to Too Faced’s Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Fuchsia. I know it’s been on the market for a while, but I really marveled at the hybrid stain-liquid lipstick-glossiness of the thing. Plus, the packaging and the precision applicator tip render lip liner unnecessary. Let’s just say I quickly made a trip to Sephora to scope out all of the colors they offer.
Bliss Multi-face-eted All-in-One Anti-Aging Clay Mask ($45)
My skin decided to take a nosedive on a recent work trip and I was scrambling to find anything to clarify, detoxify, and rejuvenate. Thankfully, I was quickly turned on to the multitasking power of Bliss’ Multi-face-eted Anti-Aging Clay Mask and immediately felt the impact of the glycolic, carbon, and jojoba oil to tackle my skin woes. It helped even out my tone, reduce my pore size, and gave me back a somewhat healthy glow. I’ll take it. Even better? It’s also available in a handy travel packet size. LOVE.
Sachajuan Protective Hair Perfume ($65)
While it’s certainly not an essential part of the routine, I must say that I really fell for Sachajuan’s Protective Hair Perfume. I’ve been a longtime fan of their products, so the scent was both familiar and delightful. I know it’s seems slightly absurd, but I like the idea of an alternative to drowning my hair in dry shampoo simply in the name of freshness. Also, I’ll never pass up a little extra UV protection wherever I can get it. Throw in a bit of shine and a little static reduction? I’m sold.
Smith and Cult Nail Polish ($18) in Lo-Fi
A self-admitted sucker for packaging, I squealed with delight over Smith and Cult’s deliciously decedent nail polish bottles. Brought to you by the same genius who founded everyone’s ‘90s beauty crush, Hard Candy, its highly pigmented and brilliantly shiny, five-free formula has the best selection of colors. Naturally, I kept it simple and went for the browny-grape shade Lo-Fi on my toes, but I’m dying to try some of the glittery ones ASAP.
Beautyblender Micro.Mini ($18)
At this point, I’m sure most of us have heard or sung the praises of the Beautyblender sponge. Universally loved and used by makeup artists and makeup lovers around the world, it’s the easiest tool to buff out or build foundation, apply cream blush, and more. Naturally, when I spotted the new bright lime micro-mini version of my beloved sponge, I NEEDED it. Best used to reach trickier areas such as the side of the nose, corners of the eye, or brow bones, I’ve found it easy to travel with as well (go figure).
